No offense to Allison Kraus but....

A reunited Led Zeppelin in December 2007 at Th...Image via Wikipedia....if it weren't for her and Robert doing this seemilgly never ending tour, MAYBE he would have been open to the tour millions of fans world wide have been wanting to see for years.   If you haven't heard yet its OFFICIAL that Mr. Plant will not be recording or touring with Led Zeppelin any time soon.  I for one am disappointed, but its his life, his choice, thank God Bruce Springsteen loves his fans.

So the big question is:

If Led Zeppelin do go on a tour with the unknow American singer they have been rehearsing with, would you go?

or

Would it just  not be the same without Robert singling lead?

I'll tell you my answer soon....

I'd go but I wouldn't consider it a true Led Zep experience. It's weird but increasingly normal for the lead singer to not be a part of the big tours and venues fill up anyway.

Journey without Perry, Yes without Anderson, etc.

Michael, are you comparing Journey to Led Zeppelin? No, you wouldn't do that. I see your point, I am still not sure what I would do. I think I'll just stay home and watch "The Song Remains the Same" and use all that money for U2 tickets instead...

I might think of going, but I would not consider it as my third time seeing Led Zeppelin. I would consider it seeing a band that has some of the old members of Led Zep in it.

Wanted you to know I did my review of the Allman show from Saturday night and Part 1 of the Allman Tutelage is up...

Hope you and your readers find it interesting Tuneage Tutelage On The Couch

I wouldn't go if they advertised it as Led Zeppelin, and I had to pay Led Zeppelin prices for only part of the band.

@chez béziot- I'd put Alice in Chains w/o Layne Staley on that list, as well. While William DuVall is a very capable singer, he just can't fill Layne's shoes.

I saw different incarnations(from the original lineups) of both Foghat and BTO 20 years or so ago, and it just wasn't the same. Lonesome Dave and Rod Price were no longer with Foghat and Randy Bachman was the only original member of BTO in that version of the band(although that night, he absolutely kicked ass).
As far as Zeppelin is concerned, I wouldn't go either way(Plant/no Plant), for a number of reasons, but if the others do decide to tour w/o Plant and use another singer, it'd be the same as Queen touring with Paul Rodgers last year; just half a bubble off plumb.
Now, if they are serious about it, the only logical choice for front-person, IMHO, is Ann Wilson. Other than Plant, she sings the band's songs better than anyone I've ever heard.

One more thing before I put away my soapbox, you can't really put any "blame" for this non-happening in Alison Kraus' lap. Robert's a big boy and can make his own decisions, and he seemingly wants to move on from Led Zep, which is his right.
Sometimes, it's not about what we, the fans, want, but what the artist wants.

A friend of mine ran into Plant I think last year on a beach in Mexico, just chillin'. The man's having fun. He deserves it. So, yeah, apparently this tour is what he wants. He's got the freedom to do what he wants, so I say power to'im. I'd see the current tour since he's passionate about it.

I'm not a huge fan of reunion tours. Yes, the musicians deserve respect for still being able to do it, but most aren't touring with new material or looking to do anything different. They seem to be doing it to satisfy the industry and fans, so it's just for the money. This may be jaded, and I'm sure there're exceptions, but the shows are like solid encores usually.

I went to see Bill Cosby once. I had listened to his tapes to go to sleep as a kid, so I knew them by heart. At the show, he did mostly new stuff, stuff about growing old and remembering youth. Then he busted out with the piece about the dentist. It was so WEIRD. He did it like a recording.

So, to "can" old greats and play shows of top hits kinda sucks to me. I'd rather hear bootleg old concerts.

Just my thoughts.

Peace.

I kind of agree with Frankie. I might go, but I don't think the ticket prices should be as high. I have no problem with the band doing touring without Plant, but it should not be advertised in the same light.

Any band that tours with a new frontman, especially one as notable as Plant, should make it very clear that this is a different singer, and then, hey if it rocks and people love it, perhaps a second tour round could be bigger.

It's not the same without Bonham. Without Plant or Page, it might be fun to hear but it can't be considered Zep in any way, shape, or form.

And I will not fault Robert for touring with AK instead of his old mates. I can criticize artists for doing new stuff I don't like, but I can't imagine what it would be like doing the same songs over and over again for 30+ years. He owes us nothing.

No question about it. It's just not Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. It's bad enough John Bonham is dead. Led Zeppelin without Plant or Jimmy Page is not Led Zeppelin. Period!

I think it would be a cool concert to see if only for JPJ and JP, but it would not be the same. It would kind of be like a tribute band. I saw Jason Bonham with Foreigner at a local county fair a couple years back w/o Lou Gramm and it was really good. I assume they would play all the old stuff as they are probably not recording anything new, but I may be wrong. I think they can find someone to sound like Plant and the music would be kickin. I would pay the going rate.

I'm with Nobody's fool. Not really her fault, and besides, what rights do we have as fans to demand of these people so much that even in their later years we hassle them for even more? I wouldn't want that done to me. I'm certain he fondly remembers and loves his time in Zeppelin, but enough is enough. Besides, Bonham is gone.

NOTE: I am not blaming Allison Kraus...geez, that was an attempt at humor, I am not that naive. Robert made his choice and ultimately I respect it, its his life...

Ok Bond, I think your bragging...some of us never saw them even once :(

Nobody, I would go FOR SURE if Ann was their choice to sing!!!!!

Daniel, I agree. Like I said above, its Roberts life and he can do as he pleases, I am just bummed because seeing the three of them with Jason would be the next best thing to seeing the real LZ.

Frankie, yes price would make a difference.

Jon, yes it would be very important to make it clear!

David, yep. 30 plus years...hard to imagine.

Dan and Dark, thanks for stopping by here and adding your two cents!!!

Mad, well said. I don't think musicians OWE fans anything, but I do appreciated the ones that realize without the fans, they would never have reached the success they attained. That said, once again, I was not seriously holding Allison responsible. The bottom line is:

NO matter how great Jason B. may be, Led Zeppelin died the day John did.

Layla, could not agree more. The party was over long ago.

I would not go.

sorry, wouldn't even be close in my opinion. worse than the recent rash of Who concerts... only half the original members, and the F*cking LEAD SINGER isn't even with them?!? at that point it's a cover band to me with special guest appearance by Jimmy Page and John Paul...
plus, not to state the obvious, but all these guys are so freakin' old, that even having ALL the original members on stage (hell, even resurrecting Bonham somehow) it wouldn't be the same.
