What do Peter Frampton, George Thorogood and Elton John Have in Common?

Well, I can think of a few things off the top of my head: they are all male, they are all musicians, they all sing, they all use their first name for their "band".

But today what they have in common is that they came on the radio (in the above order) one after the other today and each brought back a great concert memory for me.

Peter's multi-million selling , "Peter Frampton Comes Alive" is the best selling live album of all time.  Its sad that his talent was overshadowed by his" overnight sensation" popularity because he's a good musician.  I went to see him at the Forum of Inglewood with my friend Kim and her brother Clint.  It was a great show, I think I was 17 at the time.   There really is something cool about hearing him do "Do You Feel Like I Do" live.  If you recall that's the song where he uses the  talk box, and an effects pedal to sing the chorus of the song.  Here's how it work:

Image via WikipediaNext, George Thorogood and the Deleware Destroyers.  It was an all day music festival at Los Angeles Collesium headlilng the Rolling the Stones.  George came on after a long line of mediorce bands and livened us up.  After they played it was J Geils and then the Stones.  I don't think I could  live through another one of those all day things again.....


And Sir Elton John - saw him under the stars on a warm summer night at Irvine Meadows Ampitheater.  It was the one and only time I saw him perform and he was not a disappointment.  He really is amazing on the piano and fun to watch.  I don't remember much of it but I recall enjoying it and my favorite part was when he lied under the piano playing it....anyone have any idea if there's a cerain song that goes with that?  I don't recall.

Anyhow - those are my thoughts du jour.  Hope you're all having a great weekend/week.

News on New Releases

Rush are hoping to start work on a new studio album to be released
next year. Until then, they will release Snakes & Arrows Live on
Apr. 15th and a live video from that tour will surface on DVD in late
summer or early fall.

Peter Frampton has started writing new material for his next studio
album. He expects to spend the rest of the year writing and
recording with a break during the summer and fall for a tour.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters will release their new studio album,
Momofuku, on vinyl on Apr. 22nd and CD on May 6th.

Eagle Rock Entertainment plans to release a live Ted Nugent CD
entitled Sweden Rocks on May 13th. The show was filmed during the
2006 Sweden Rock Festival and a DVD is expected on June 10th.

The Steve Miller Band will be releasing a 3-disc set, Steve Miller:
Live From Chicago, via the Coming Home Studios label in the U.K. on
June 2nd. The set includes two DVDs and an audio CD.

I'll never forget the night I sat in the audience anticipating the concert of this newly famed artist. He put on a great show and was so adorable (still is).

I have always felt his talent is under-rated. He's a really good guitarist and songwriter and vocalist! Sadly I think somehow he got looked over because he was so cute and baby-faced and did that totally lame movie "Sgt. Pepper" (does anyone remember that????) Peter Frampton - Fingerprints From Dave White, Your Guide to Classic Rock. 'Def Leppard did it with Yeah!. Ozzy Osbourne did it with Under Cover. Peter Frampton is doing it with Fingerprints. "It" is artists recording albums that are tributes to other artists whose music has influenced them. Frampton took it a step further an invited some of those artists to join him on the album. Fingerprints is "the album I’ve been waiting my entire life to make," Frampton said when the album was announced. "I wanted to play with people from all over the world, and I wanted to make the selections as diverse as possible."


Did he succeed? Oh, yeah. Styles range from rock to swing to r&b, blues, and country. Guest players include present and former (respectively) Rolling Stones Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman; Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and Mike McCready; original members of The Shadows, Hank Marvin and Brian Bennett; Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule). The guest list also includes several well-known session guitarists Paul Franklin and John Jorgenson, and Courtney Pine on saxophone. Frequent co-writer (and the album's co-producer) Gordon Kennedy is featured, along with Frampton's regular band-mates, John Regan on bass, Arthur Stead on keyboards, and Shawn Fichter on drums."

The Rolling Stone is the best music mag out there. I used to subscribe, but now read on-line and only buy the really great editions that I want to keep. For example, I have all the covers of Bruce. What I am going to do with them, I have no clue.

But...I decided to do a bit of reminiscing by sharing some covers with you.

As you know, Peter is/was one of my faves. This picture makes me a bit sad for some reason. This was from 1977. Some of you may have not been born then (yes, Traci that means you! My faithful reader) but I actually graduated from HS that year, I was 17 at the time.

Dang. I don't feel old.
