Adam Ant

Several questions come to mind:

1) did he borrow the jacket from Michael or did Michael borrow it from him?

2) I also see a bit of Boy George influence here, or is it the other way around?

3) How do you classify Ant music?

4) Where is he today?

5) Did you know his fan called themselves Antz?

Neil Young

A friend just reminded me of Neil. I can picture the cover to Harvest and Decade...I wore those albums out listening to them over and over....What a great songwriter.

My Humble Apology

Dear Steve,

WHAT was I thinking?

I can't believe I left Pink Floyd off my poll. I am hanging my head in shame and may not be able to show up and post here until I get over it. I tried to remove Bruce to change it...but alas, it's too late.

As for Bob Plant - I think it suits him these days :)

Happy Birthday, Bob!

I wonder if anyone calls Robert Plant, BOB?

"How can you consider flower power outdated? The essence of my lyrics is the desire for peace and harmony. That's all anyone has ever wanted. How could it become outdated?" Robert Plant

I've Been Tagged!

I've never been tagged before, I kinda like it! Anyhow...Beckeye tagged me with this:

List five songs that you are currently digging - it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions and the five songs (with artist) in your blog. Then tag five people to see what they're listening to.

My list:

1) Don't, Mike and the Mechanics
2) Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Traffic
3) Stormy, Santana
4) Miracle Drug, U2
5) Un Lugar Celestial, Jaci Velasquez

Now, whom shall I tag? I pick:

Laura
Traci
Regi
David
Isaac

Quote of the Day - Bob Dylan

"Each of us has his own special gift and you know this was meant to be true. And if you don't under estimate me, I won't under estimate you."

"I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

"May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift. May you have a strong foundation, when the winds of change shift."

"You breathed on me and made my life a richer one to live, when I was deep in poverty you taught me how to give. Dried the tears up from my dreams and pulled me from my hole, quenched my thirst and satisfied the burning in my soul."

I was thinking about Bob today because a friend of mine, Izik, is a Dylan fan. Izik posted a really cool blog dedicated to his father who recently passed away so that's why he was on my mind.

A few years back Izik and I went to see Bob in concert. I remember asking him (he's in his 20's) how he came to like Dylan. He told me about how his parents listened to Dylan as long as he could remember and they instilled a love of music in him...and a special appreciation for Bob D.

Anyhow...these 2 quotes are to honor the memory of his dad, Skip.

TP & Jackson B

Just got home from Tom Petty & Jackson Browne...great show, will report tomorrow.

Okay here is the review:

Musically, both bands were great. I didn't recognize most of Jackson's songs until he got to the old favorites, "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Doctor My Eyes", "I am a Patriot". I admire him because he's an activist that does not shove his views down your throat with hostility like some actors/singers like to do (Linda Rondstat for example). He sounded great, was humble, sweet and still good looking for an older guy (same exact haircut he's always had!)

Tom was excellent and did all the expected faves. I've seen him several times and my sister and I both agreed that he seemed a bit...cocky. I have never noticed him acting arrogant before so it was unsettling. But he is a "rock star" so I guess he's entitled.

The most interesting thing about the evening was the crowd. I am used to growing old right along with my fellow fans of all these older bands. In fact, I feel pretty young at some concerts! But Tom Petty appeals to the 20's crowd as well as the 40's crowd. In front of me sat a couple in their 50's and next to them four guys between I'd guess 19 - 22. I love the fact that a whole generation of people has discovered that the best music was recorded before they were even born!

The only negative for me was all the smoke from cigarettes, pot and cloves which made me feel SICK. This was an outdoor event, but for some reason the smoke still got to me.

The bottom line: the music was great, we had good seats, the visuals for Petty were very cool but I think that will be my last visit to one of his concerts. I am saving my money to go to LESS concerts but get BETTER seats at the one's I really LOVE (U2, Bruce, Bowie, Heart, Train and a few others)

Ted or Elton?

I was going to post a photo of Elton John today but thanks to a post by my buddy Steve, (see his post titled Jesus Loves Ted Nugent) I shall share a Ted Nugent memory.

I've seen Ted a few times but I only remember one specifically. I can remember sitting on the grass on a blanket with my roommate Nicole, her date Rick and my date, Eric. It was out FIRST date and I could tell he wanted to put his arm arount me but was chicken.

Ok back to Ted....In addition to being a very talented and passion filled musician the guy was athletic! He was like a fine tuned machine, or in his case maybe he would prefer to be compared to a wild animal. At one point he changed from a skin-tight white outfit to a pair of leather chaps with nothing covering the backside! Okay, this is really not about Ted's music but it's making me smile and I really, really needed to smile.

How's this for a thought: Ted and Elton on stage together doing a duet? What song do you think they'd do? Tune in tomorrow for Elton.

Elton

This, and Madman Across the Water are the only two Elton John albums I've owned...they are both A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Saw Elton once and just sat there mesmerized by his talent and showmanship. He acutally played from UNDER his piano a few times. Gotta love EJ.

Rock Quote of the Day:

"I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps "Oh look at that!" Then— whoosh, and I'm gone... and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me— ever."

Who said it?

Lyrics Quiz

Here are three for today, do you know who these are by?

"You're the first one
When things turn out bad
You know I'll never be lonely
You're my only one"

"I'm not afraid

Of anything in this world
There's nothing you can throw at me
That I haven't already heard"

"Honey, all the movements you're starting to make

See me crumble and fall on my face
And I know the mistakes that I've made
See it all disappear without a trace"

The 80's

WARNING:
Clicking on the link below may cause you to laugh, or it may cause you to get defensive at my suggestion that you may laugh. Be prepared!!!!!

Being a child of the 70's, my musical taste tends to reflect on the many talented, incredible bands that were around between 69-80. (I swear I am not THAT old, I just started listening really young).

But...there were also some great 80's bands. I will dedicate the next several posts to some of my faves.

In the meantime, I had to put together some photos of a whole genre of rock that came out of the 80's. Are you ready for this?...if so, click here:

Mick, Please Help!

I love the Stones, have seen them only twice in all these years. I would love to see them again before it's too late (who knows if they will tour again).

BUT....I can't get tickets. First of all they sold out immediately upon going on sale (all three shows). Second, the majority of the tickets were bought by scalpers (I know this because there are an abundance of them for sale at all the ticket outlets). Third, the CHEAPEST seat I can find is $150.00.

I know what you are thinking..."what's the big deal, $150.oo is not that bad, you paid $400 for U2 tickets!"

Well, my U2 tickets are great seats. These $150.00 tickets have a "markedly restricted view" which means blunty: you can't see jack crap from these seats. They are not only in the nosebleed section, but they are behind the stage, beind a pillar or something.

The next price up for a slightly less crappy seat was $240.00 for wheelchair seating. I suppose I could rent a wheelchair for the night, but it would be kind of obvious when I got up and danced that I was faking it.

Next - for a crappy view you can pay $450.00. If you want a view but are alone you can pay $500.00 for a single seat. BUT if you want to go with someone and have a seat you are going to have to pay anywhere from:

$650.00 - $1,800.oo EACH!

This just breaks my heart and ticks me off. Why? Why do they charge so much? Don't these people have enough money? I love you, Mick...but I am so disappointed that you allow these outrageous prices.

Mick, I know you read my blog, dude, so PLEASE, make this right! It's uncalled for and pathetic. Write me and let me know what you plan to do about it.

Duran Duran and Elvis Costello!

NO, not together...can you imagine? That would be an interesting show.

I came across two reviews today of the above bands that were both seen in concert the other night while I was at a Michael McDonald concert (who feels old? me)

Anyhow, these are true fans of their bands. Check it out Beckeye's post on Duran Duran and Laura's on Elvis Costello.
