30 Guitar Riffs - 15 Bass Riffs

Was cruising around YouTube this morning:

Not sure if I agree with all of these, but most of them belong on this list.  It was fun to listen to.  I think the person who put this together is a big fan of G&R, they appear more than anyone else.

And, here's someone's favorite bass riffs, I like all of these:

Great Guitar Solos

One of my all time favorite's is Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption".
Quote about this solo from Rolling Stone magazine:

Eddie Van Halen's 102-second mission statement was a piece he invented onstage: a solo showcase for his mastery of tone and technique, notably the rush of notes he produced with his fretboard tapping. An army of teens would try to duplicate it, emerging years later in every metal band of the Eighties.

This video is ten minutes long...but worth it.  Damn, I'm surprised his guitar didn't catch on fire.  And I have to say - one of the things that sets Eddie apart to me is his smile.  Not many guitarists appear to be having as much fun as Eddie when he's in front of an audience.

What are some of your faves?

The Guitar Kid

OH MAN!  This is incredible....someone left me a comment on the last post with a link to their son's website.  I want you all to remember Ryan Cagide so when he's world famous you can say "I first heard of him at Layla's....."

This kid is impressive!  Check out the list of concerts he's already seen at age 11 and all the artists he's met.  He's off to a great start!

Favorite Guitar?

Rock and Roll Guru has a section on his site that is called "Rock and Roll History".

Today I learned that on April 10, 1956 Leo Fender patented the Stratocaster guitar.

I know some of you play, do you have a favorite guitar? If so, what is it? If not, what type does your favorite guitar player play?

Top 50 Guitarists

Mad Hatter has a great post up. The age old question that I NEVER tire of....his picks are interesting, no huge surprised other than I haven't heard to some of his picks. I have a very hard time listing my top 5 let alone my top 50.

Who should get that number one spot?

Its hard for me to base my decisions on skill alone, personality and how I personally feel about the artist at that time in my life (ok, so I am a female ok, I think with both sides of my brain!)

So for today only my top five are: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Slash, Eddie Van Halen and Alex Lifeson.

One thing I love about his reviews is his rating system, its clever and it speaks volumes! Check him out!

A - You will never be whole without it

B - Highly recommended

C - Flawed, but still pretty good

D - It's your money, not mine

F - Why couldn't this have been burned in Fahrenheit 451?

Joe Satriani - Review

Sometimes I have the privilege of reviewing a new CD or DVD and this week I received two in one - the 20 year anniversary edition of "Surfing with the Alien".

I just finished watching the DVD and it was excellent. I lost track of time because I was so enthralled with Joe's talent, he never disappoints. He's truly one of the masters of guitar. His style is hard to define, because its all his own. He mixes hard rock, instrumental rock, jazz and blues and created his own unique techniques.

Legendary bass player, Stu Hamm, is featured on the DVD and does this insane solo that defies description, its sort of like his bass was transformed into a guitar, banjo and harp during this song. Really cool.

If your a fan of "Satch" I highly recommend this new release, if you're not, listen to it and become a fan! It hits the stores on August 7th!

On a personal note, I need to make my next boyfriend either plays guitar or loves to listen to it as much as I do. No exceptions. Joe Satriani loves his guitar, I want a man with that kind of passion.

Surfing With The Alien:
2) Ice 9
3) Crushing Day
4) Always With Me, Always With You
5) Satch Boogie
6) Hill Of The Skull
7) Circles
8) Lords Of Karma
9) Midnight
10) Echo

Marc Seal - Can you say SHREDS?

This is my new favorite guitar player. You can tell he was heavily influenced by SRV, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. I discovered him while watching one of those local cable channels and was shocked that they had someone with talent on their rinky-dink little show!! He's on tour on the East Coast but lives in my area so I hope to see him live soon.
