Cal Jams I annd II

Image via WikipediaArt has a post today that describes one of the BIGGEST outdoor concerts in HISTORY with 200,000 people. Check out his blog, he has some great videos and excerpts from a newspaper article...its pretty darn FUNNY to read because times were a bit different back in 1974!

Here is the line-up:

• Earth, Wind and Fire
• Eagles
• Seals & Crofts
• Black Oak Arkansas
• Black Sabbath
• Deep Purple
• Emerson, Lake and Palmer

I didn't go to the first one (although I went to a similar one that year on a much smaller scale and got in big trouble with my parents who basically forbid me to attend).

I went to the second one they had four years later, 1978. It was CRAZY. The traffic was backed up for over 10 miles. I was in my mom's car with my little brother and some friends and a case of beer. My brother threw up in the car. Then the car broke down. So naturally I left it on the side of the road and we hitched a ride to and from the concert. My mom was not pleased by this but hey - you do what ya gotta do to hear great music live, right?

We sat in the sun all day with hardly any food or water and waited for hours in long lines to use the disgusting porta-potties. We couldn't really SEE the bands but we heard them. It was a great time :)
