I listen to upbeat pop music, usually from the 80s. How can you stay depressed when listening to songs like:Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the WavesKyrie - Mr. MisterKeep Me Hangin' On - Kim WildeI've Got My Mind Set On You & When We Was Fab - George HarrisonDown Under & Who Can It Be Now - Men at WorkAfrica & Rosanna - TotoMagic - The CarsOr some of these gems from the 70s:Life's Been Good to Me - Joe WalshMr. Blue Sky - ELODon't Look Back - BostonMagic - PilotStayin' Alive - The Bee GeesI Just Want to Be Your Everything - Andy GibbPeace Train & Wild World by Cat StevensShow Me the Way be Peter Framptonand just about anything by the Steve Miller Band.
I just gotta get back on down to the islands with Jimmy Buffett.......
The 1st group that comes to mind is The Lovin' Spoonful. Songs like Do You Believe In Magic, Daydream, and You Didn't Have To Be So Nice always put a smile on my face.
Tom Petty - "King's Highway"
Oh and there's some really good Queen stuff too of course... How can anyone not smile when listening to stuff like Somebody to Love, Fat Bottomed Girls, I Want It All, I Want to Break Free, and A Kind of Magic?
A friend of mine once gave me a mix tape he made called "Bright Songs for Dark Mornings." It was a tape he played when he was down. i expected it to be all upbeat, but most of it was mopey. It told me a lot about him.A few that come to mind for me:"Here Comes the Sun" - Beatles"Walking on Sunshine" - Katrina and the Waves"Beautiful Day" - U2"I'm Alive" - Circle Jerks"Rock You Like a Hurricane" - Scorpions"Do You Remember Rock n Roll Radio" - Ramones
Actually, I listen to those when I'm already happy. When I'm sad, I listen to stuff to make me more profoundly sad!
Usually, something heavy and loud.
ABBA! You have to admit they do a great pop song. The Rocky Horror soundtracks put a smile on my face too, especially the Roxy cast one. It's so kitschy and 50's rock 'n roll.Songs that get me jumping on the furniture are Misty Mountain Hop by Led Zeppelin, Cinnamon Girl by Neil Young and probably more than any other song Easy Rider by Jimmy Hendrix. I defy you to sit still while that song is playing!
OK, I know I am very predictable, BUT... Allman Brothers, Eat A Peach, Mountain Jam... the way the song builds and crescendo's and then comes down and does it again and again...the interplay of guitars, Duane's slide making the bird chirping sounds...it impacts me emotionally and when it is done, I feel all the pain that had been inside has flowed out of my body...Well that or the theme from Barney ... THAT was a joke!
Perplex, you have guts admitting to Andy Gibb :)Goober, I am suddenly craving a margaritaMalcolm - ohhhhh great choices I smiled reading it.
Chez, Tom has some great ones for sure.Bond, Beautiful Day is number one on my list of happy songs :) So Bob, are you saying you ARE like your friend???Angie, great songs. I readily admit I could not sit still for any of those songs. Its hard to dance while driving, but it IS possible when the radio plays certain tunes.Perplex, great Queens songs. Fat-Bottomed Girls always makes me smile as does U2's "Big Girls are Best", there's a lot to be said for being voluptuous :)Bond .... the truth comes out...I love you, you love me, we're a great big family....
