A Dream Come True for Karen

Somehow I missed this dedication when I was at the show last night. Backstreets was one of the best songs he did last night, full of emotion, now I know why. Thanks, Pete, for pointing out this story about
Karen. I am going to shed a few tears and say a few prayers for her.

This IS a sad -- tho beautiful -- story, & Bruce is a helluva nice guy, & I can't imagine the positive impact his time & attn must've had.
What I hope most tho is that Karen didn't take this "U have 3 wks 2 live" stuff 2 hard. I think 1 of the worst things doctors can do is tell some1 who's terminally ill "how much time they have left." I know some patients (& families) insist on having a rough idea -- but they scared the hell outta my Mom when they diagnosed her w/ lung cancer, & she went thru chemo, went in2 remission, & got another yr & 1/2 B4 it finally got her. She'd smoked 4 YRS, & had QUIT smoking 4 mo's B4 she was diagnosed on Mother's Day....
Coupla yrs B4 that, when my Dad had a clogged main artery in 1 of his legs, the docs told him he was having an aneurysm or a stroke or something & my Mom about had a heart attack from the stress. They medevac-flew him from Idaho 2 Seattle -- then made him sit 4 3 DAYS B4 they did surgery. If it was such an Emergency, why'd they make him sit? Now he's fine & still w/ us, & probly in better shape than ME....
Like the commercial sez, there's no expiration date stamped on NE1. I hope Karen lives & Njoys every moment she has left 2 the fullest (as we ALL should), but I also hope she Xpects 2 B around longer than 3 wks.
What bothers me even more is all these early-50-something people who R getting seriously sick or passing away. I turn 50 in Aug, & so far my health's bn really good, I've bn lucky, don't smoke or drink, but.... In my newspaper days, typing-up obituaries always usedta bother me. It bugged me even more when it was some1 YOUNGER than me. I still feel the same way reading them....
Thanx, & a great story tho sad....
-- TAD.
