What's Going On?

Marvin Gaye wrote this song about 40 years ago. I was singing it to myself today thinking about how it speaks not only of then...but of now, and then I found this video. Please watch it.

Life

It's amazing to me how the priorities of life can change instantaneously upon hearing some bad (or good) news. I am going through some personal challenges at this time and don't know when I will feel like blogging again, but I will be back. Hopefully soon.

Great Cover of Comfortably Numb AND Eddie Van Halen Replica Guitar!

For a really good video go check out Bruce's blog. I'll let you read the details there. I am too tired to write!

Also, below is a good video interview with Eddie Van Halen talking about the replica of his guitar. Did you know his guitar is modeled after a cross between a Gibson and a Fender? Did you guys know he MADE that guitar himself?

If you are a guitar player, I think you'll enjoy listening to him talk about this! I have to admit I didn't understand a lot of his guitar lingo!

I found this over on Real Rock News.

Gisele to star in U2 video

Hey, you guys should enjoy the next U2 video that will be filmed!

16th July 2007 11:54:30

Gisele Bundchen is set to star in the u2’s next music video after becoming friends with frontman Bono.

The pair met when Gisele appeared in ads for Bono’s RED charity campaign for no fee.

Giselle is one of the highest paid supermodels in the fashion industry and is notoriously picky about the jobs she does.

Misheard Lyrics

I have always got a huge kick out of misheard lyrics...some of my own are pretty dang embarrassing! While at Metal Mark's today I got to thinking about Van Halen, here are a few from songs. Here they are -( I listed the real lyrics first).

Please leave any you can think of in the comments. For a great list that is sure to entertain you check out Am I Right?

Little Guitars:
Non-stop talker, what a rocker.
~~~~~
Non stop taco, I wanna rocko.
Ain't Talking About Love:
I heard the news baby
All about your disease
~~~~~

I'm on the loose baby
Like a warm stack o' cheese

and last but not least:

Panama:

I reach down between my legs and
ease the seat back...
~~~~~
I reached down between my legs
and eased the SEED BAG.
Is it just me?
I was having an email conversation with one of you recently and we discussed the fact that man y people "our age" (late 30's - late 40's) have lost their youthful zeal and passion for music. I find that to be very true, but I am not sure WHY. Is it because "growns-ups" aren't suppose to like Led Zeppelin anymore? Are we too old to listen to Sick Puppies? I don't know. I still love rock and roll and can easily see myself at age 75 singing along with Bono, Bruce, Boston or the Beatles...
What do you think? Also, I know most of the people who read here are more into metal than classic rock....I wonder why I don't get classic rock fans reading here?
Tomorrow I am going to post a 'name that tune' quiz that i made up for my other blog...now why the heck did I think anyone over there would respond? I don't know. I only got two comment. I thought I made it WAY TOO EASY!
Name that tune:
I put this on my other blog today and for kicks I thought I'd put it here for you experts to take a shot at:
Here are some lyrics from popular songs (of my era, but all these bands are well known). See how many you know without looking them up!
Name the Band/Artist, the song and for bonus "points" the album they were on. Maybe I'll send out prizes (CDs of the songs?) to the people who get the most right. I know some of you will get all of them.
  1. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
  2. Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy, she'll beat you if she's able. You know, the Queen of Hearts is always your best bet.
  3. All lies and jest, still, a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.
  4. Fathers be good to your daughters, daughters will love like you do. Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers, so mothers be good to your daughters, too.
  5. Heard ten thousand whispering and nobody listening. Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughing. Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter.
  6. I don't need no money, fortune, or fame. I got all the riches baby, one man can claim.
  7. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
  8. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.
  9. Nobody wants him, he just stares at the world. Planning his vengeance, that he will soon unfold.
  10. Send me dead flowers to my wedding and I won't forget to put roses on your grave.
  11. So tonight you better stop and rebuild all your ruins, because peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.
  12. We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school
She does a damn good version of it if y ou ask me...
Real Rock News had a post about Ann Wilson singing some Zeppelin on her new solo CD. Heart has always covered a few Zeppelin tunes and they are a big hit with the audience when they do them live. As I read the post I thought to myself "I really need to see them when they tour here again".
What's so weird about that you ask? I already have tickets, I am seeing them in 2 weeks. I forgot. I think it's called aging. I'm serious.....how could I forget that!?!?
Go to Ann's myspace and listen to her sing Immigrant Song.
Donovan Frankenreiter
Do any of you listen to him? I like his music a lot, just started listening to him recently and just discovered today that he's a local to here - grew up in the next town over and surfs right where I go to the beach. Maybe I know him and don't know it :)
Donovan is a surfer/musician, his music is kind of mellow, not surfer-ish though. If you get a chance to listen to any of his music let me know if you like it. Here's his myspace music page to give you a taste of it.
The New Queen
You've probably heard that Paul Rodgers is taking on the role of the new frontman for Queen. They are in the studio right now and should be releasing something in 2008.
What are your thoughts on this? Not just on Paul replacing Freddy, but anytime a valuable member of a band that has died, is replaced? I think of INXS going on the reality show to replace Michael Hutchence and I feel ill. No one can ever replace him. In my mind INXS ceases existing that day. Same with The Doors and Led Zeppelin.
Other bands seem to move on fine after replacing someone who's passed away - The Who for example has lost two its members but still consider themselves "The Who".
Dylanesque
Bob did a great review on Bryan Ferry's new CD which covers Dylan songs. Check it out here.
Live Earth - Did you watch it?
I'd love to hear your thoughts. I didn't watch it, I boycotted it because I think its a hypocritical way of gaining attention to the problem and adding to it rather than helping solve it.
For a much longer rant on the subject you can check my other blog.
Ted Nugent spouts his big mouth off again.
In an article titled ‘The Summer Of Drugs’, the huntin’ ’n’ shootin’ guitarist downed his bow and arrow for long enough to blame "stoned, dirty, stinky hippies" for "rising rates of divorce, high school drop-outs, drug use, abortion, sexual diseases and crime, not to mention the exponential expansion of government and taxes." (taken from Classic Rock)
Here is a summary of the article, I found it quite entertaining especially when he brags about his 59 years of never using drugs or drinking, he certainly encouraged us to do those things back int he 70's, I was there (he did look good in those white spandex pants, I must admit).
Ted is entitled to his opinion and free speech and so am I.
My opinion is that Ted is an arrogant ass.
Each generation has an influence on the next but to blame all these societal problems on one group (that just happens to be the extreme opposite of his pesonality/character) is just silly. You're silly, Ted!
Thanks to where I originally found this item!
Rush Concert?
Once again, money is keeping me from a show I really want to see. This venue is good, but lawn seats are CRAP (they are not shown here because they rarely even SELL lawn seats). You are sitting at the VERY top of the stadium on a steep slope so if you choose to stand up you can't really even dance around without falling. Reserved 3 seats are not terrible, but they aren't great. I don't know....I guess I could dish out $41.50
  • Reserved 1: $121.50
  • Reserved 2: $71.50
  • Reserved 3: $41.50
  • Lawn: $29.00
Jim Morrison Died 34 Years Ago Today
We've all heard the story a hundred times....but here it is again today for anyone interested. (Taken from Wikipedia)
Jim Morrison's grave at Père-Lachaise.
Jim Morrison's grave at Père-Lachaise.
Morrison moved to Paris in March 1971, taking up residence in an apartment at 17 rue Beautreillis. Once in Paris, Morrison lost a great deal of weight and shaved off his beard (although his last photographs show a considerable amount of bloating -- a classic symptom of congestive heart failure). By all accounts he became very depressed while in Paris, but he admired the city's architecture.
He died on July 3, 1971, at age 27, and was found in his bathtub by (Pamels) Courson. Reports stated that he had dried blood around his mouth and nose and large bruising on his chest.[citation needed] Pursuant to French law, no autopsy was performed because the medical examiner found no evidence of foul play. The absence of an official autopsy has left many questions regarding Morrison's cause of death.
In Wonderland Avenue, Danny Sugerman discussed his encounter with Courson after she returned to the United States. According to his account, Courson stated that Morrison had died of a heroin overdose. Courson said that Morrison inhaled the substance because he thought it was cocaine. Sugerman added that Courson had given numerous contradictory versions of Morrison's death, but the majority of fans seem to have accepted the mistaken heroin overdose account. Courson herself died of a heroin overdose a few years later. Like Morrison, she was 27 years old at the time of her death.
Pearl Jam - Review
I've realized something in recent months - I am not very good at reviewing music. Sure, I can give you my opinion on what I like, but when asked to review something that is not something I would typically listen to, I am at a loss for words.
Writing this blog has allowed me the privilege of receiving CDs and DVDs on a weekly basis to review. I turn down most offers but curiosity gets the best of me and I agree to review about half of them.
Right now, I have fallen way behind. Sitting here on my desk is:
The Traveling Wilbury's Collection (CD)
Richard Thompson "Sweet Warrior" (CD)
Bryan Ferry "Dylanesque" (CD)
Pearl Jam "Live at the Gorge" (CD) (Becky - want it?)
and
Sammy and the Wabos "Livin it up in St. Louis" (DVD)
I don't want to shirk my duties as a reviewer....but I sure could use some help. If any of you would like one of these items to review on your blog please email me with your address and I will mail it to you!
For now, I will put in Pearl Jam. AND I won't accept any more offers to review music until I am caught up!
UPDATE!
Ok, I could NOT handle Pearl Jam but I am finding Bryan Ferry's covers on Bob Dylan very interesting. If you like him and like Dylan - you will like this CD! Its so different hearing the lyrics in such a smooth, slow voice. "Along the Watchtower" was very especially intriguing.
