The Us Festival

Were any of you at "The Us Festival" in Sept. 1982 or May 1983? It was one of the biggest events in rock and roll here in the US - a four day outdoor event packed with people. I didn't go. My sister did and I may ask her to be a guest poster to share her story - it's wild.

My question for you:

Have you ever been to a big outdoor music festival?
If so, when, where and who played? Would you do it again?
and
Which of these days would you have wanted to attend if you could only go to one?

Check out the bands that played in 1983 !!!

No, I've never been to anything like that; I don't live in an area that has ever had any festival-type concerts. Plus, I live 3-3.5 hours from D.C., VA Beach, and Charlotte, which are where these tours usually come the closest. So suffice it to say, it's not just a short hop up the road.

I went to Cal Jam II when I was a teen but it was more like a nightmare than a fun time!

I've never been to a multi day festival but I have been to Lollapalooza before which had Janes Addiction, Audioslave, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus and a ton of others. I also went to the Virgin Mobile Festival with The Who, The Flaming Lips, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Raconteurs, Wolfmother, and a bunch of others. Both were pretty fun times but definitely draining, I don't think I could do a multi day festival.

I've never been to anything like that. Never had the chance, really.

But if I had to choose a day from your post - I couldn't do it. I would have had to buy the park-hopper for sure - but I would have probably taken Saturday off.

Incidentally, Quarterflash is our little claim to fame here in the Rose City.

Jeff, a one day festival is even too much for me!!!! Just give me good seats and one band :)

Lily, I could no way handle it either. Even back then I refused to put myself into that mess. My sister came home covered in red dirt (clay) and underneath she was sunburned. She was so wiped out she went to bed like that - no shower - and slept for a whole day!

Oh my god, I went to this when I was in college! I couldn't remember who played because I am now in my forties, except I totally remember seeing Stevie Nicks because from where my friend Susie and I were standing, I could see Stevie drinking wine and snorting something right off stage and then coming back on stage and continuing to sing. I had so much fun at that concert, I remember the pretenders, and Van Halen. I wish I could say I remembered Motlie Crue, but I don't really. It's OK I just saw them this last year. Anyway, that US festival wow. I was going to school in Santa Barbara, CA and my best friend and I drove to San Bernadino and saw the concert. I don't remember any band as much as the impression Stevie Nicks made on me. That I could see what she was doing, and it looked like she needed it to continue on, was an impression that never left my mind. I also saw another awesome concert in San Francisco when I was still in High School. I went to some concert I think it was called A Day On The Green. We saw ACDC, Ted Nugent and a few other bands. I don't really remember who the other bands were off the top of my head but ACDC rocked out, and Ted Nugent came flying onto the stage from some rope attached to either a helicopter or something like that. It was awesome, I think the other band was either Van Halen or Aerosmith. I was about 17 yrs. old at that one. Boy, the bands I saw. I also saw Santana, Eddie Money and Tom Petty at some small little arena in Salinas, CA. That was the first concert I ever went to and my brother took me. I was only 15 at the time. Santana blew me away. Everyone was so fresh and young. I also saw Hewie Lewis and the News at a small place in Monterey and I saw the Rolling Stones in 1981 in San Francisco at another huge arena. Who hasn't seen the Stones right?
