Expanding My Musical Horizons

As long as I can remember (way back to age 4) I have been listening to rock music primarily from the 60's - 80's. I am always open to new music and enjoy trying something new...but I never actually OWNED much other than my classic rock collection with some jazz, classical, blues thrown in to round things out.

But then a couple of months ago I discovered legalsounds.com and have bought a ton of music from them. At first I felt like it just be a scam, or illegal, or that somehow I would get ripped off, apparently it's totally legitimate. So I have been downloading songs from there for 9 cents each rather than iTunes for 99 cents each. I told myself I could by 1,000 songs for a grand total of $90 which saves me $900! NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS!

Here are some of my new faves to listen to along with the greats like Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Etc. I know it's not all rock and roll....don't tease me about any of my choices! Some of these I had one or two songs of, but now I've been able to expand my
collection a bit. Grand total on iPod is now 2,957.

Benjamin Biolay, The Wallflowers,
The Black Crowes, Jonny Lang, The Fray,
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sarah McLachlan, The Killers, Pearl Jam, The Chruch,
Beth Orton, Govt, Mule, Gran Bel Fisher, Evanescence, Daniel Powter,
The Gin Blossoms, The Mars Volta, Artic Monkeys,
Guster, Zero 7, Stone Temple Pilots,

If you are just now discovering Jonny Lang, you have missed out on some of the best blues-rock to come along in years. He had his first recording contract at the age of 14, and recorded his first solo album, "Lie to Me" a year later. A former local DJ had the best line I've ever heard about him, when he said that Jonny has an "old soul". And if you like him, I invite you to check out a young lady(20 yrs old) by the name of Shannon Curfman. To call her amazing is an understatement.

So how are you liking The Mars Volta, I know they're not the easiest band to listen to.

Urbs, yes I do, just look at how young my boyfriend is, that will tell you something :)

Bruce, I don't know how I have lived up to this point not knowing about Jonny but I am totally in love with the guy. I mean his voice. I mean...his music!

Jeff, I have to admit at first I was like "how can Jeff stand these guys?" but I gave them a chance and when in the mood, I like them!!

I met Johhny Lang when he was about 14 or so...cool kid then who could wail on guitar...can wail louder now, and where that voice comes from...who knows.

Tommy! I mean Isaiah! Thanks for coming over here. You were a big time rock star yourself in your former life...Maybe I will do a post on you if I can use that pic of you with the long hair....

Wasn't a juke box hero, just a singer in a rock n roll band; what can a poor boy do?

If you aren't sure about using LegalSounds.com, check out the review at songboom.com. There are bunches of other cheap music sites reviewed there too :)
