DAN'S TOP TWENTY FIVE CLASSIC ROCK ALBUMS

A young man (12 yrs old) I know has been following my posts on this blog and asked me what my top 10 classic rock albums were. I gave it much thought and could not in good conscience limit it to 10 albums. The list that follows is strictly my list of albums that I grew up to love from my young teen years. They are in order of importance to how strongly they affected me in my life, not necessarily how any other person would rate them.
This young man plays a mean guitar and it is my hope that a bit of my love of this music will find a home in his life as well. I believe it already does, but maybe this list will inspire him to reach for other artists in his search for the next guitar solo.
I have also included a few of my favorite songs. Enjoy......

25. Neil Young: Harvest

24. Led Zeppelin: II

23. Black Sabbath: Paranoid

22. David Bowie: Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars

21. Pink Floyd: Animals

20. Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow

19. The Rolling Stones: Sticky Fingers

18. Derek and the Dominoes: Layla and other Assorted Love Songs

17.Jimi Hendrix Experience: Are You Experienced

16. Led Zeppelin: Houses of the Holy

15. The Beatles: The Beatles (White Album)

14. Savoy Brown: Street Corner Talking

13. The Who: Who's Next

12. John Mayall: The Turning Point

11. The Doors: The Doors

10. Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon

9. The Zombies: Odessey and Oracle

8. Spirit: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus

7. Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run

6. Bob Dylan: Blood On The Tracks

5. The Beatles: Revolver

4. The Allman Brothers Band: Live at Fillmore East

3. Led Zeppelin: Physical Graffiti

2. The Doors: Morrison Hotel

1. The Beatles: Rubber Soul

Hopefully you will create your own album list that is as important to you, as this one is to me. To me albums were the only way to listen to music. In this digital age, I can't just download one song. I always have to get the whole album. Thanks for reading and listening.

GREAT POST, DAN! I loved seeing your list and will work on my own. Several of mine showed up on your list, its ordering them that will be hard for me, I may have to alphabetize or I may drive myself crazy.

Good for you for influencing the young man. It makes me so happy to hear about young people that are into any type of music - but ecstatically happy when they like good old rock and roll!

Very interesting list, Dan. I'm so glad that The Zombies feature in it, they were the 60s forgotten band.

Also, I couldn't help but smile when you mentioned your dislike of the pick 'n' mix download. Albums are a piece of art to be taken whole or not at all. Pink Floyd have just won a court case against EMI preventing the download of single tracks from their albums for that very reason. With them it's all or nothing - and quite right too.

Ok, here is my list. I cheated. I'm sorry but I could not list just ONE almbum of the bands I listened to ALL THE TIME and had every single album every released by each (at that time).

I did follow the guidelines and chose only music I listened to between the ages of 12 - 17 :)

1. Aladdin Sane, David Bowie
2. All of Bob Dylan
3. All of Bruce Springsteen
4. All of Led Zeppelin
5. All of The Doors
6. All of the Rolling Stones
7. Animals, Pink Floyd
8. Bad Co., Bad Company
9. Behind Blue Eyes, The Who
10. Blind Faith, Blind Faith
11. Concert for Bangladesh, George Harrison & Friends

Barbara, I didnt know this was a contest. You did cheat tho none-the-less. You cant pick all of somebodys albums just because you "like" them! I had a very hard time leaving some of my favorite albums out of the mix. Come on you can do it and narrow it down to 25.

Thanks Music for noticing my preference. I did see the news about the Pink

Thanks for trying anyway though Barbara.

Darn it! I thought I could get away with it. Ok. I will work on revising my list :)

Barbara, Love your list even though it is cheating.

Bond, try it again, I want to see it!

Drew, nice list. Just to clarify, U2 was not around till I was a bit older or JT would have been on my list along with several other U2s.

Excellent picks from everyone. Very tough to go the "Sophie's Choice" route when it comes music, though.

Pretty good and well mixed up list. From Sabbath to the Beatles.
Physical Graffiti would be my favourite Led Zep, definitely deserves its place in your top 5.

Thanks,
Steve.
