"Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently told CNN that his lack of ear protection during most of the 35 years he's been playing rock music has been the cause of his hearing loss and developing tinnitus. At first it was barely perceptible but during a concert tour in 1988 the ringing in his ears continued while he slept. "I try to point out to younger kids... once your hearing is gone, it's gone, and there's no real remedy."
There is NO CURE for it. There are tons of people trying to sell cures, but trust me on this - I have been on a tinnuts forum for years and every one of those "cures" has been tried and failed. If there ever is a cure millions of people will be lined up, willing to pay anything to get the noise to STOP.

Good reminder, thx.
Good info to share. I almost always carry ear plugs.
Oh.... I didn't know that Lars had Tinnitus ! Poor guy.... He's such an awesome Drummer ...! :(
Oh Barb, that's terrible for you. As a music lover, I can't think of anything worse.
I used to stuff cottonwool in my ears at concerts (much to the derision of my mates!) but I'm glad I did. I still get a bit of temporary ringing after using an ipod for lengthy periods but hopefully nothing permanent.
I feel for you!
Omg ! I didn't read the line that you too have Tinnitus Barb ! I too empathize with you on this, bcoz after listening to long hours of music, my ears start paining too, but for a short while .... This post now makes me Thank God ! As musicobsessive said, its real terrible for you barb .... :(
I didn't know you had that Barbara... I can't imagine what that would be like..... I'm lucky I've never had to deal with anything like that. I've been lucky. I'm suprised I don't have something like that after all the bands I've played in. I have no hearing loss what so ever from what the doctors have told me. I feel blessed.
Another good reminder, take care of your ears folks they are the only ones you have. Thanks!
