Hows the Water???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, here I am.
My name is Dan and I am one of the new bloggerers sitting in for my friend Layla. Bloggerers? Is that a word?
Oh well, I would like to thank her for giving me this opportunity. I don't know if anything I have to say is worthy of your valuable time, but I am going to give it a shot.
For my first classic rock blog-shot, I would like to offer up some of my favorite classic rock blog-shot sites. I continually find things I have not seen of nor oftentimes heard of in a long time. Also, little bits of rock and roll info that bring back memories of days gone by. Remember back in the day? Riding in the car with the 8 track stereo turned to volume level 10?
My first choice when I log on (besides Laylas blog) is always Seano at Circle of Fits. He has the most enjoyable way with words and rocks on big time whenever he gets the chance. Sometimes I know not of what he speaks, but he always speaks it well. He also has an adorable little child, with which he thinks the world of, I am sure.
Second on my list is Pod. Sean's creative writing and cool analytical interpretations of many of the old classic rock albums have me hooked. He has a way of looking at the old albums, that is right on, that is for sure!
I could not go any further without including my statehood pal from Milwaukee, The Rock and Roll Guru. Give him a listen and learn from his rock and roll dictionary and learn his rock and roll philosophy. I met him last year at Milwaukees Summerfest and was blown over when he walked up with his young daughters in tow, they enjoying every bit of the music we all love.
The last site I recommend tonight is the Rock and Roll Today site. He has a new timely video each day as he surfs the internet for significant events in rock and roll history of each day. He is like clockwork in his new postings and they always bring back memories or even evoke new ones.
These bloggers never fail to give me some enjoyment no matter how the day went. As you can see from the picture above, I am a huge Doors fan. I wish I could show you a video of Waiting For The Sun today, which you would think was from the album of the same name, but I am having some technical difficulties. It actually is from Morrison Hotel, which I highly recommend. I think The Doors purposely delayed this song so as to screw with us all. Hope you enjoy my entry into this other world and I look forward to giving you a bit of enjoyment also.
Great post!!!! Thanks, Dan. You have great taste in blogs. I always start of with Seano's blog too, never know what he's going to say.
And the Guru is a good friend of so can't go a day without reading/watching his stuff! I met him and his lovely twin girls at Summerfest too! He introduced me to Davy Knowles which was so cool!
Of course I love Sean C's blog too and will check out Rock and Roll today.
I LOVE the Doors too, lets see should we ask one of them if they purposely delayed the release of "Waiting for the Sun".
Hey, Thanks for the shout-out!
It's always good to hear that someone out there in internet-land is reading...
And Barb, take some time off. No shame in that. We'll all still be here when you get back.
I look to everyone you mentioned for daily inspiration, Dan. Except for Seano, That dude is unpredictable and abrasive...forcing his opinions into everybody's lifespace..that shit is scary...I prefer the infinite knowledge of Sean Coleman..he's well researched and I never fail to learn something from his posts....Layla is one of the reasons I started blogging...I have learned so much from her...she has a heart to match her experiences High or low.
Dan, just be yourself....it never fails.
Seano, yeah that Seano character is one weird-ass dude! But you have to love his cynical wit, extensive musical knowledge and sweet disposition.
I appreciate the mention, Dan. We'll definitely have to get together again this year at Summerfest!
Great blogs. I already regularly read both Sean and Seano's blogs but I'll have to check some of the others you mentioned out as well!
Might I also recommend:
The Hits Just Keep On Comin' - Another Wisconsin based blog. The blogger is a longtime DJ with an interesting perspective on the history of both AM and FM radio with memories of some rather obscure material played on radio over the years.
AM Then FM: Yet another Cheesehead music buff blogger. He enjoys scavenging the few remaining record shops out there for rare out of print vinyl gems and shares his thoughts on those records on his blog.
Barely Awake in Frog Pajamas: Generally the blog is just personal anecdotes but then there's an interesting twist... the blogger finds songs that are related in some way to his personal anecdotes and reflections and shares his thoughts on them.
Bloggerhythms: A music review blog. I've known Charlie over the net for years. We actually moderate a Chicago (the band) message board together with a couple other friends. His reviews are rather eclectic and run the gamut of folk rock, classic rock, country rock (he even interviewed Richie Furay formerly of The Eagles and Poco), and a handful of other genres.
Music Obsessive: A British Blog. Martin Warminger is also a published author. His book Memoirs of a Music Obsessive is available from Amazon.co.uk I've not yet read it but if his blog is any indication it's a thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thanks everyone for the shout out and for the additions to the blogs role and lets not forget our friend Perplexio and his blog "The Review Revue" as he is always a perpetually puzzling and persistently pleasant person and his purpose is to propose perplexing points in both music and other things as well. There are many other blogs, of course and my day would be incomplete without exploring the nether regions of the depths of my memories.
Thanks
Nice first post...
My only suggestion would be to have added links to those blogs...
I write on music on occasion, but my blog does not rate close to some of those in terms of content...
Bond you are right on. I should have done that. By the way I have been to your site on a regular basis and really enjoyed the piece you did on the Allman Brothers a while back.
I am still learning this blogging thingy and I will try and learn how to add the link next time and also the video attachment.
Thanks for your input.
B, if you ever want/need a contribution from me, I'm more than happy to. Just let me know when and let me know what you'd like me to post on. If not, that's cool too! I enjoy coming here to read too.
Cheers -P
I read all of your blogs regularly and never fail to be entertained or educated by them. I am truly floored by the kind comments concerning my blog.
Just a thought: Why don't we all contribute our own online music magazine?
I realize that, in a sense, we do that just by posting but to get organized and turn it out to a wider readership would attract the attention of the musicians themselves.
Here's the thing:
There are some great publications out there, though I rarely see true passion, wit and an attempt to steer certain artists off of their message track within their pages.
The music scene has shifted and artists now lean heavily on internet promotion to get the word out about their work.
If you had the chance to interview a musician that you admired, would you waste their time asking about their favorite food ? Or would you try to engage them and shed light on a side of them that wasn't apparent before?
Barb has planted the seed for pooling a variety of submissions together in one spot.
Build a reputation for excellence in covering your subject matter and the possibilities are endless.
