Rory has a special place in my heart for two reasons:
1) he was born in Donegal, Ireland which is where many of my relatives are from, and quite a few are still there
2) he's highly underrated for his exceptional talent and kick ass guitar playing
"Gallagher's final resting place is in St Oliver's Cemetery, on Model Farm Road just outside Ballincollig near Cork City, Ireland. His headstone is a replica of an award he received in 1972 for International Guitarist of The Year." (photo and text from Wikipedia)

Highly underrated and highly unappreciated. One of my earliest blues/rock influences.
"Should've Learned My Lesson" is still high on my personal playlists.
Underrated, definitely. Underappreciated; not likely. He was a great one.
Also, there's a certain guitar "God" whose birthday is coming up at the end of the month. It should be a day of worldwide celebration! ;-)
@ Unholy_Diver:
I'm assuming you're talking about Clapton!! You know what they say (or said anyway): "Clapton is God"
Haha
Underrated guitar player,
definately.
I was fortunate to see Rory Gallagher open for Rush in Milwaukee on 10/09/1982. Very first major venue concert I ever saw. His guitarwork was amazing. It was the first time I've ever heard of him!
@classic- of course I am.
Funny(to me, anyway) thing about that quote; when my brother-in-law asked me how the concert was(the one in '90), I said, "you know that 'Clapton is God' photo? It's right."
Chris Martin could put me off Pisces!
Edge would agree with your take on Rory. He cites him as an influence =)
