David Bowie - Always One Step Ahead of the Rest of Us

Way back on this date in 1999, David launched an Internet radio station, "The David Bowie Internet Radio Network" Their first show was Bowie's introducing each of his favorite songs track by track.

You gotta admire that! He's always been an avante garde kinda guy, but also very a savvy business man who obviously recognized what a HUGE force the Internet would become. Then of course there's also his website, which is really more of a network:

Bowie Net

I heard a rumor that he's in the studio recording....PLEASE LET IT BE TRUE!

Bowie is one guy I never liked nor understood what he was all about. His huge popularity amazed me. Because so many people love him I began to think I was the problem.

David, I tried, I really, really tried to love you but I still can't you.

Charlie, hey at least you tried. I liked him back in the "weird" days and then kind of lost track of him musically for a long time. But I saw him on his last tour and the guy is just a down to earth nice person with a lot of talent. He's not Ziggy or Aladin or any of those characters, but he sure did a great job of creating some unique personas - you gotta give him that much! :)

Ziggy Stardust was a favorite in my collection back in the day. Like yourself, I hope there is some truth to this rumor about David Bowie being in the studio.

Very important artist. He had an incredibly creative run in the mid to late 70's (well ahead of music trends) and still does interesting music when he chooses to.

Big Bowie fan, eh? Me too, although I don't follow that many musicians' sites, I just can't do it all. I bet his is interesting.

My daughter and I just spent a week listening to Hunky Dory and Space Oddity in the car on our way to school/work. We had to force ourselves to remove the CDs from the vehicle because if not, we thought we might not ever listen to anything else again...

Love Bowie. He is one of those artists you start thinking about what your favorite song would be and the list just goes on and on and on. I can say that Heros is, was and always will be my favorite Bowie song.

Despite the fact that it is fairly well known and perhaps over-played, I think my favorite has got to be "Change."

"And these children that you spit on as they
Try to change their world
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware what they're going through..."

As a child, a parent, and a teacher, those lines have meant a lot to me.

Of course, I know the title is "Changes." Oops!
