As RRN points out, they have a legitimate reason for not wanting to participate:
According to a Led Zeppelin spokesman, the bands reluctance to involve themselves with the game scene stems not from the issue of money, but from their reluctance to lend out their master tapes that would be required to add the the groups legendary music to the games.
My thought was that they should do it because it would generate tons of money which they could donate all to charity (I mean really - they probably all have way more money than they could possibly use right?)
What do you think?

I understand why they don't want to, but I'm with you...they should for charity. :)
it's the master tapes. for a musician, that's like asking to borrow your child for a few hours. if i were them, i'd say hell no, do a tour instead and donate that to charity.
Hatter, can't they take a copy of the master tapes and give them that? I guess I don't know that much but dang the way you phrased it I would not want to part with the tapes (my kid) either.
I think they should just let their legacy rest. No Guitar Hero, no reunions, not more repackagings. Every generation has found Zeppelin and that's not gonna change whether they're in Guitar Hero or not. If they want to donate something to charity, they can donate the royalties for all future sales. That would be bazillions. But that's up to them. I just wish they'd let the past be the past. Plant has done great things over the last decade that can stand on its own. I'd rather he scrap all the Zep stuff and live in the present.
I agree with Bob. They will never be the old Zeppelin if they get back together. Let the legacy stand on its own. I agree that Plant has done some amazing things on his own.
As far as Guitar Hero, I certainly would not compromise my music by letting them use it. I feel the same way about commercials as well. It seems to water the tune down when all you hear is a 15 second cut while being sold something.
But guys...I just want to see them play live. :)
I can understand why they don't want to give out their music to guitaro hero, and I can somewhat understand why they are reluctant to give out their master tapes, but I really wish they would. Because if they did, then maybe there would be a possibility of getting some of their music in 5.1 surround sound even though that breed died before it even began.
Eh. Let them sit it out. I'm with Bob, MH, and Dan.
I want to see them live ... in 1969 or so. Now, it's not Led Zep and even i can't pretend it is.
ok, ok...you guys made your point and I get it.
I, however, STILL want to see them with Jason Bonham. Not the true band but as close as you can get.
I just want them to tour so they can refund me for Houses of the Holy.
Hatter - If they have to refund you for Houses of the Holy, then you'll have to refund all of us for time spent reading your reviews.
Houses of the Holy is their best album right ahead of Physical Graffiti.
Ouch, Bob. Ouch.
Want me to be honest? I personally think Page and Plant just LOOK for ways to be prima donnas. Don't get me wrong I love the Zep but they are the Macy Day Floats of egos.
Hatter - but i smoked my first hit of maryjane listening to "Houses" how could anyone NOT love that album ;)
Dan, I THINK you are being sarcastic here, if not let me know.
Starr, I love your honesty and your comments. You may have a good point on P & P. They don't exactly have that "down to earth lets connect with our audience" kind of energy do they?
I think they should do it because Rock Band and Guitar Hero are reaching more music fans. These games are just the next step up from air guitar. I have enjoyed both of these games with my kids...having fun with my kids while "playing along" with Zeppelin sounds like more fun to me.
It's not about money, it's about sharing their work with the generation that grew up with them and bringing their incredible work to a new generation.
I agree with Starr's observation as well. It's about the music guys, it's not about you.
They don't need Guitar Hero or a reunion to bring their music to the next generation. They have eight albums that have done that just fine for the 28 years since they called it quits.
Barbara,
Obviously you missed my Houses post a few months back. LOL.
Bob,
Agreed. Legions have followed them from all walks of life without so much a whisper. The somewhat recent car commercials and Guitar Hero won't change that a bit.
They are right to leave it. It's the most tacky thing in the universe.
Children will quickly tire of this game and go on the next time-wasting video game.
