Luckily one of my new daily blog reads, Pop Culture Dish, reminded me that it's her birthday today. I love this woman. She IS rock and roll. If I were a musician, she would be my role model. I am so embarrassed by some female "musicians", but am proud to point people to the REAL DEAL.
Happy birthday, Chrissie, you ROCK!

I never cared much for the Pretenders until a few years ago. it's weird, because I was pretty indifferent to them when they were in their prime, but I got the records out maybe 2-3 years back and I like them a lot more now. Weird.
Unfortunately, female rock musicians often get viewed as female first and then rock musicians, almost as if they can't compete with the guys or something. Chrissie Hynde seemed to transcend that though. There didn't ever seem to be the sense that she was only measured against other women in rock, but that she was taken on a more level playing field.
Wow what a great set of blogs. Chrissie Hynde is great. THanks for vitising the Poor Mouth
Chrissie's work has aged well. If you think about it, most of it sounds timeless and effortless. Pretty amazing from a self proclaimed lazy person. I only imagine if she had the work ethic of say Elvis Costello. She is an unparalleled brilliant singer! She said a few weeks ago, when she goes home to London, after her restaurant opens, that she'll be hitting the studio.
It must have been fate that my first Pretenders post was just a few days prior!
