CONCERT SEASON!

Concert season is right around the corner and I just purchased a pair of tix for Heart. I love these ladies so much - they put on a great show and always include their famous Zeppelin medley where Ann sounds almost as good as Robert Plant.

My seats are good - on Nancy's side of the stage, so that will be perfect. The concert is not until July 27.

Sunday I buy 2 tix for Roger Waters which is June 13th. I hope I can find someone to go. There's this one young bloke I'd like to take, but it may be a bit of a drive for him.

DAMN IT! Brad Delp Killed Himself!

ROGER WATERS CONCERT

June 13th, about 10 mins from my house at a great outdoor venue, Roger Waters will be perfomring Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety. As happy as I am about this - it still irks me that him and David Glimore can't see past their differences to give us all one last chance to hear Pink Floyd.

I have to go! I need to find someone to go with me. How come all my music friends are so far away? I'll buy your ticket if you fly out here to watch it with me...any takers? Becky? Urbs? Jeff? Bruce? David?

More sad news....Richard Jeni Died

I felt like I knew Richard Jeni cause he was one of my favorite comedians. The guy never failed to crack me up and entertain me. Never saw him live but saw him on The Tonight Show quite often and heard him on KLOS on my drive home from work at least once a month. Apparently he committed suicide. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Comedian Richard Jeni Dead Of Gunshot Wound

A caller told LAPD, "My boyfriend shot himself in the face." West Hollywood, CA, -- Police say a popular comic appears to have killed himself. Richard Jeni, a standup comedian who played to sold out crowds, has died of a gunshot wound. Los Angeles police found the 45 year old performer alive but gravely wounded in a West Hollywood home Saturday morning when they responded to a call from Jeni's girlfriend. According to LAPD, the caller told police: "My boyfriend shot himself in the face." Jeni died at a nearby hospital. Police say suicide has not been officially confirmed and the investigation is continuing. Jeni regularly toured the country with a standup act and had starred in several HBO comedy specials, most recently "A Big Steaming Pile of Me." He also appeared on the "Tonight Show" and in movies like "The Mask" starring Jim Carrey.

Very Sad News about the death of Boston lead singer, Brad Delp

Brad Delp, lead singer of the band Boston, dies

ATKINSON, N.H. - Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55.
Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Lt. William Baldwin said in a news release that there was no indication of foul play.

My good buddy, Darrin, sent me an email last night with this sad news. Its much less shocking to hear bad news from a friend than an impersonal headline in the paper or on-line.

Any Boston memories you'd like to share? I know all of you my age remember them well. They were a "fun" rock band, not too heavy, not glamorous, just good music.

How Far Would You Fly?

I was invited to go see the Goo Goo Dolls at a small club in Hollywood for a private concert - for free. It's for a charity and is by invite only. I was jazzed to get such a nice offer, but I'm not going because, they just don't do much for me (other than "Iris").

BUT - there is a woman flying here from SWITZERLAND to attend this. She is obsessed with the band and this is her chance to see them up close and possibly meet them. She's paying airfare, lodging, car rental plus $200 bucks for the ticket. I had to ask myself: Would I do this for U2 or Bruce (my personal faves)?

I'll tell you my answer if you tell me yours!

Goodbye to Billy Thorpe

Australian rock legend, Billy Thorpe, died of a heart attack on 2/28/07. I must admit, I had never heard of him, but after reading about him today I wish I would have. My good friend in Oz mentioned Billy to me so I've spent some time reading the Aussie news, a huge loss is being felt there.

This may sound strange, but my sister and I have been fans of Bruce Springsteen since we were kids and sometimes we talk about what it will be like when he dies (assuming we outlive him). Its going to be a heartbreaking day for us, like losing a life-long companion. So my empathy goes out for the fans of Billy Thorpe. I hope they can comfort each other as they reminisce of all their great memories of a "true child of rock n roll".

"Billy was an uncompromising heavy metal fan - he played louder and higher than anyone and he lived his life that way. He was a true child of rock'n'roll."

He was a man whose joie de vivre affected all around him, Shorrock said.

"[He had the] metabolism of an elephant, uncompromising in his approach to his music and his life.

"[He was] sartorially elegant - he always presented himself immaculately everywhere he went, and a wonderful sense of humour."

I'm Old and Boring These Days

I've been in a funk. This blog has been boring lately. I'm very bummed that Van Halen is not touring - that would have been such a trip seeing DLR front them again after all these years. I was looking forward to it. So to make up for one rockin concert, I am going to see two small, intimate and mellow concerts:

Dave Mason and Ambrosia

This is why I know I am getting old. Dave Mason? Ambrosia is a great band and I have always loved them. But, Dave Mason? Nothing against the guy its just not my typical choice. Both bands are playing at The Coach House (not together on the same night - that would be nice though).


Also playing at this wonderful yet seriously uncomfortable venue is a Van Halen cover band, The Atomic Punks. I just happen to know "David Lee Roth" (Ralph Saenz) from high school so it would be a kick to see him perform. One nice thing about seeing the Punks vs. the real VH is that unlike David, Ralph is still HOT!

Maybe I can get my sis to go with me. I really, really need some good live ROCK. My son won't allow me to go see Rage Against the Machine with him - imagine that, a 16 year old boy not wanting his radically cool mom with him at a concert? I don't get it.
