A Quote about the 60's

Woodstock Music Festival/1969Image by dbking via Flickr
"The 60's are gone, dope will never be as cheap, sex never as free and the rock and roll never as great."
Abbie Hoffman

Do you agree with this quote?

Oh, by the way, I changed my template - did you notice? Is it too girly? I like it...I am, after all, a girl.

The sort of quote that I say 'Agree' to immediately and then think 'Except...' Frankly, who knows?

Btw - love the new layout, so what does that make me...

Don't get me started on Boomers and their pretentions of grandeur. News flash Abby. You ALL sold out in the 80's.

The boomer hippie movement was nothing more than the usual youth rebellion there were just hell of a lot more boomers than other generational cohorts. But in their usual, ain't we so revolutionary and groovy manner they continue to thing they did something special.

So no. I don't agree. Every friggin generation thinks their stuff was better than the "new fangled" crap these youngsters are listening too. Congrats Abby. You are now THE MAN.

Feel better now that you got that out, Starrlight? Perhaps an anger management program would be a good next step.

In response to your question, Layla, the answer is a resounding YES!

He has a point, but Im not sure the music would not be as great. I grew up in the 70's and thought there was some mighty fine rock and roll in that decade. But in the 60's drug use was relatively new so therefore cheap, and free sex was relatively new and we all learned what the dangers of that turned out to be.

BTW love your new look!

Hi Obsess, haven't seen you in a while, glad you stopped by and like the new look (it makes you confident in your masculinity).

Starr, I bet Abby is rolling over in his grave at being called "The Man" :)

Guru, I don't think Starr is angry, just passionate in her opinions. I love that about her.
And glad you like the new look too.

Dan, well said. I agree. I'm a 70's girl myself and they rocked...I assume that's your dog in the pic, I love Labs!

One of my labs. She died last year of cancer at 8 years old. Fortunately I still have her sister with me. We get so darn attached that it really is hard to let them go.

I like the new look.

And being that I wasn't around for the 60's, I can't and won't judge. I'm just as happy rocking out to Jimi Hendrix as I am to Nirvana.

I sort of agree. I think rock and roll will never be as great as it was during the 60s and 70s, but there will always be good music coming out.

Here is an article I wrote about the classic rock era 2 years ago. I think it's still true.

Can't say bc I didn't live through the 60s. I love your new layout too! :)

Having come through the the 60s, partaking of everything it had to offer, I can tell you the sex and drugs came with a price tag. All of it. I left behind too many good friends to ever think it was free.

However, the music was absolutely great and gave birth to even greater music.

Unfortunately it also gave birth to some real crappy music. think Bee Gees during the 60s and then into the 70s and disco...

Yeah, I have to say I agree, though to me, 60's music really spanned from 1967-1973. There's precious little rock these days that will qualify as "classic" in the future.
