A Powerful Moment in Half Time History

I remember rushing home from work that day-not to watch the game, but to see U2 perform. I think it was one of the most important half time shows, or at the very moment, the most special and meaningful.

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this. In this case the saying is true, "Better late, than never."

Springsteen calls Wal-Mart CD deal a mistake. This guy is just another liberal who took their money and now prior to the Super Bowl performance says, "sorry fans I was wrong." "Please forgive me."

To some degree, I agree with anon. It's not like the position against Walmart is some secret. Everyone knows they have some questionable labor practices and they're consistently attacked for those. If Springsteen cared about it, he would have nixed this deal from the start, but apparently the money was too good. I don't buy the apology. He's either being disingenuous or he's stupid. I'm guessing it's not the latter.

As far as halftime shows go, the most memorable (in a good way) for me was Prince's performance a few years ago. It was about the only time that an artist actually seemed to transcend the hype of playing the halftime show.

I hope you enjoy todays 1/2 time show Barbara. I am sure he will be the man you think he is. For me last years Petty concert was just the ticket. As far as the Wal Mart thing, I agree he was pretty naive about going into a deal with them. I am sure he does not know all that goes on with all of his promotions and such but he should if he does not want to fall into that trap. He talks a good liberal boy game and then signs this kind of deal. Good thing he does not ever make mistakes like other people we know.

I will try to comment on this actual post (since I already gave my two cents' worth in your Springteen Wal-Mart post).

This was perhaps the best halftime performance of all time. U2's performance was an amazing tribute.

I have to agree with Anon and Bob. It's not like this exclusive deal with Wal Mart was some little deal going down. This decision was deciding exactly how his album would be distributed, and for a LARGE sum of money. To me he comes off as another person who doesn't practice what he preeches.

Aside from that, this U2 performance was the best halftime performance I've ever seen. Sort of along Bob's line with the transcendence, I think this performance was much more than just a half time show. The intensity of the show, matched with the memorable tribute, topped with the amazing music was spectacular. In my opinion, there has never been a half time show that has even came close to touching U2's. They are in a league of their own with that performance.

Hands down the best for me. With Prince being a very close second.
