Dec. 8th? That's the day John Lennon was shot. You might say the "day the music died." Regards to Don McLean.

oh man, Lennon. I wore a black arm band to my 6th grade class and my teacher and I just cried all day long. It was awful.

Dunno about another thing. I know Pearl Harbor was the 7th.

On perkier news I put a link to a picture gallery on my comments on the 52 daughters post. Cause eye candy is always nice ;0

Mike, yep that's one for sure.

Star, wow, you were in 6th grade and cried...a lot of 6th graders at that time probably didn't get it at ALL.
(eye candy time......)

Oh and yes - Pearl Harbor day and also my son's birthday (18 in two weeks!!)

The Beatles were my lullaby's. Remember my parents were hippies. REAL hippies. Like living in communes and a school bus ala The Merry Pranksters.

I remember it perfectly. Walter Cronkite told me and I had to tell my parents.

Yeah the eye candy. Holy shiznitz. That boy is knockin on Johnny Depp Land.

On December 8th I am sad for the life of a man taken too soon from this world, who had just started his life over and was raising a 5 year old son.

But, mostly I celebrate the life, music, and accomplishments of John Lennon and the only person I really grieve for is Sean, who never got to really know the father who loved him so much.

Jim Morrison's Birthdate('43?) is on the same day Lennon was shot. 2legends gone before their time.

It's great visiting Strawberry Fields on Dec. 8th each year. The fans are out in full force with their guitars and singing Lennon's music in unison. Definitely a fantastic experience!

Does anyone else think it's interesting that Lennon died over his fame, not over a cause? I don't buy his commitment to peace at all. It was all about being famous, not about doing real good. If he wanted peace, he should have been a father to his first son. There is no peace in a world where fathers abandon their children.

Pearl Harbor in 1941 (I think) and John Lennon's murder.

Both John Lennon and Dimebag Darryl were murdered.

that should be Darrell.

Starr, no wonder you turned out so good - you had hippy parents.

Mark - that is beautiful. I feel for Sean AND Julian.

Jeff, I remember reading about your experience doing that a few years ago. If I ever go to NYC, it will be for that.

Bob, interesting perspective. I admit my first reaction was to be defensive but you're right. How can a man call for love and peace while ignoring his own child? I look at Bono as an example of what fame can do for a cause, he uses his celebrity to make a difference. I am not sure exactly what John did to change the world, but I think he did change people's attitudes in a positive way.

PJ, close - Pearl Harbor was the 7th.

Nobody's - WOW! I forgot about Darrell - that makes three things. That was tragic too. Give me chills to think about it.

I'm not saying that John didn't do any good in his life. He did. But he's made out to be like Gandhi or MLK or something. Those guys gave their life for the cause. John didn't even really give a significant part of his life. He lived in opulence and paid more lip service to peace than anything else. Bono on the other hand also lives in opulence, yet he devotes significant amounts of his energies into working for things that are a lot more important than fame and his band. John likes to talk, whereas Bono likes to do. John had ideas, whereas Bono had educated ideas that are actually taken seriously by people other than just fans. I do think John tried to make people think sometimes and that's better than nothing, but let's not make a martyr out of him, because if he died for anything, it was pop culture. The saddest part about John dying isn't that we lost someone great, because he was no greater than many of us. It's that he was taken when he seemed to be trying to turn the corner in his life and perhaps make good on his obligations as best he could.
