What do you think about the Snipes/Sambora Sentences?

Wesely Snipes was sentenced to THREE YEARS IN JAIL

for not filing taxes.

Richie Sambora was sentenced to
THREE YEARS PROBATION
for driving drunk with his daughter, another child and an adult passenger in his car.

What the ??????

It seems like it should be the other way around to me.

No kidding. But that's the way the world works. 15 year old pop stars shouldn't pose nearly nekkid in Vanity Fair, either. Whatever.

Erin, true. I think the pic of her and her dad bothered me even more, that was not a fatherly daughterly pose. I never laid on my dad like that....sad that they are calling her the next Britney, not something you'd want to aspire to.

This just goes to show what's valued in this country: money, not life. Drunk driving is attempted manslaughter in my book, but it's treated more like a minor offense. Snipes should go to jail. I'm fine with that, but Sambora and all drunk drivers should be treated much more harshly. Drunk drivers might not care that they might kill someone, but I bet they'd care if getting caught meant time in jail.

I don't give a shit who you are, or how much money you have; if you're convicted of a DUI, you belong in jail. And the same goes for people who refuse to pay their taxes. I know it'll never change, but I'm sick and tired of people like this getting off with what amounts to a slap on the wrist.

Bob and Bruce - I agree. And its interesting that Bon Jovi just happens to be on tour right now.

That's another reason Sambora should be in jail.

As an aside, and related to this post, it was one year ago today that Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock was killed after he rammed his vehicle into the back of a tow truck. He'd been drinking....

they both deserve three years in prison...

I'm going to see Bon Jovi tomorrow, but that's beside the point.

I agree people who drink and drive need harsher punishments. It's like something comes over these people and they just don't think this is a serious offense. Teenagers...are not getting the point. And that's scary. More & more kids are getting dui's.

My mother in-law's best friend died on the way to her honeymoon. Her death was caused by a drunk driver. Her husband survived. SO horrible. I've always said...even if you don't care about yourself...just think about the other people you're affecting if you drive drunk.

I don't know the details of the cases. It amazes me how quick we are to judge based on limited information--even as we pay lip service to our judicial system, which relies on a full presentation of both sides of a potential crime, as the only impartial way to deal with these things.

That said, I'm concerned, too. Not about Snipes--somebody who deliberately evades paying taxes for years and then runs from the situation deserves a stiff penalty.

If the offenses were the same and Richie was put on probation while Wesley got jail time, I would feel that race played a factor in the verdicts. However, I feel that Wesley got the sentence he did for one simple reason: you don't f*** with Uncle Sam's money.

Richie should have seen some jail time because that was just flat out irresponsible what he did. Not only was he endangering the lives of others on the road, but the people with him (including two minors) as well.
