Foghat at Small Venue Near My Home!

The Coach House is one of my favorite venues of all time. I've been going there since I was old enough to use a fake ID. Its small, intimate and FUN. I've seen a lot of shows there over the years, usually local acts or older bands that can no longer draw a big crowd. I was surprised to see that Foghat will be there next month.

The best show I ever saw there was, surprisingly, Dennis Quaid and The Sharks. Anyone who thinks of Dennis Quaid as "just an actor" has not seen him perform - they guy is GREAT. He was on-fire wild all night long and walked/danced/ran by my table several times (ok, he's adorable too - I was smitten).

Anyhow he comes out on stage in an old Zeppelin t-shirt, a pair of jeans and no shoes and plays non-stop for two hours. Tons of great old songs that everyone knew. It was more like a party than a concert. Good time. Wish he'd do that again!!!

Here's a sample of the upcoming bands scheduled to play there:

Thursday, May 1
UFO / Reid Holmes / Kenny Hale
Saturday, May 3
BLIND MELON / ERIC HUTCHINSON / John Sotter

Sunday, May 4
ASIA All Four Original Members of Asia / Union Of Saints

Tyrone Wells is my husband's cousin. I would highly recommend seeing him.

Otherwise, it seems like a cool place. I'm jealous.

Erin, NO KIDDING! I will totally go see him! I like Amber Rubarth but never heard of Tyrone till now. Very cool!

I saw Foghat years ago in a little hole in the wall dump in Roanoke. At the time, Roger Earl was the only original member still in the band, but they rocked anyway. Still, it's just not the same without Lonesome Dave and Rod around, though. May they rest in peace...

BTW, I highly recommend Wishbone Ash. Very underrated band back in the day.

Not kidding. He's a cool dude. I haven't seen him in ages, but Randy saw him last time he was around. I think he's going to be back soon, too, if I remember right. You really should try to see him. Tell him Randy Word sent ya.

I wouldn't mind seeing Asia, either.

I'd be tempted to see Asia, even though reviews of the latest album have been mixed at best.

Ohh Blind Melon, I've been trying to see them for the past year but have never gotten around to it. I'm sure it's not the same without Shannon Hoon, but none the less they were one of my favorite bands of the 90s.

Hal Ketchum is GREAT. A few years ago, he covered "Five O'Clock World" which was made popular in the 60s. Can you name the group who first popularized it? Have a GREAT weekend.

Wow Foghat still making music.
I saw them oh I think 90 years ago.
Wonder if they'll ever do our smaller venues here in Chicago. That'd be cool.

B,
I'll second Bruce on Wishbone Ash. A great prog rock band in their day.
UFO,Hot Tuna,Derringer(Rick ?) and Smithereens all sound interesting to me.

Hot Tuna is Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy of Jefferson Airplane and Starship. Jorma has a place called Fur Peace Ranch within driving distance of us. He has concerts there and a guitar camp/school.
Hallchick and I went to see a blues/Jazz legend, Mose Allison there. Cool Place.

If you have never seen them, I highly recommend Hot Tuna...I like them acoustic best, but even electric is so very cool...a small venue is where they are best seen. I saw Foghat 180 years ago and they are still one of my fav rockin' bands

I'm going to see Savoy Brown next week. That is where Lonesome Dave cut his teeth. Should be a great little gig.

I saw Foghat with Cheap Trick, James Gang and Styx many many years ago. What a concert that was!
