Rock and Roll Guru has a section on his site that is called "Rock and Roll History".
Today I learned that on April 10, 1956 Leo Fender patented the Stratocaster guitar.
I know some of you play, do you have a favorite guitar? If so, what is it? If not, what type does your favorite guitar player play?

I've only played drums (and a bit of bass), so I'm not qualified to answer.
That said, I've always thought the Flying V was fun to WATCH being played ...
For looks, my favorite is the Gibson Explorer. For sound, I'd go with the Les Paul even though the Strat is the most flexible (especially with one of the pickups replaced with a humbucker). But I love the fat, chunky sound of the Les Paul. I just can't afford one (nor am I good enough to justify it even if I could). I do have an Epiphone Les Paul special, but that's a $150 guitar and can't hold a candle to the real thing. I stick to the off brands for my skill and budget: Epiphone (Gibson), Sqier (Fender), Jasmine (Takamine) and Eterna (Yamaha).
My fav is the Gibson something-or-other that Terry Kath used to play (the one on the inside cover of 'CTA' - is it the SG?). Anyway, it has to have the best dirty tone ever invented - especially when played by the aforementioned Mr Kath! Not many people seem to use one these days.
I've gotta lean toward the Les Paul, since he grew up just down the street from me,

Do not play anymore, but the Les Paul Sunburst - the guitar Duane played - has always held a special place in my heart
I have a Ibanex GAX which is like a Gibson SG, but the best guitar that I've ever played was a Les Paul. My favorite guitarist David Gilmour plays a Fender Strat.
Hmmm I am not sure which guitar Ry Cooder plays, but he is AWESOME! Same with Django Reinhardt. My son is a guitar player, and I plan on taking him to the Rock Museum in Seattle someday and show him the guitar exhibit (hopefully it will be soon) I'm sure he will have his jaw on the floor the entire time ;O)
Depends on the tone, I think. I use my Strat for most things, but I love my Tele, too. Andy Summers is amazing on the Tele; I wish I could play half as well. My SG sounds great; I just think it's easier to sound good on it than a Strat. With a Strat, you're either master and commander and the lord of all things or a damned musical butcher. And I've never had enough money or think I could ever plunk down enough to get a Les Paul. Hendrix and Gilmour use Strats, to name just a few, and that's fine by me. Oh, and Rory Gallagher is a beast.
Love the Strat!
I am late to this, but I play mostly Fender Stratocasters. I own four of them. I love the Telecaster, too.
But I would love to own a Gibson Explorer again! Why did I sell it?
