BOB VINYL SAVED THE DAY!
Bob told me about some softward that will undetle all my lost files so I am in the process of doing that now.
I still have a lot of work ahead of me to get them back in order and on my ipod but I am SO THANKFUL TO BOB!
(and Erin, you probably could have helped me too....I don't know why I panic but I thought I had tried everything)

Good Luck!!! That is one of my biggest fears, I have all my music backed up on my external hard drive but we all know that those aren't fool proof...
oh god, this is my worst nightmare, I have wirrued about the possibility of it before, my heart goes out to you; a year ago i backed all my music on cd's houndred out of conern , a friend recenlty told me to simply buy an external harddrive and use that as a back upl i havent done it though maybe now i think i should

Barb, there is also software available that will allow you to load your songs onto your computer from your your iPod. Why Apple does not provide a convenient way for us to do this is frustrating.
Ever since I spent the better part of a year and a half and over $1500 compiling the 500 songs that influenced rock and roll, I am paranoid about losing all that work and the $$$$. I have my music backed up on an additional internal hard drive, an external hard drive and an extra iPod. These amazing little music machines are not worry free. I hope you get it all back!

I have a 500 GB ext full, and back everything up to a hard disc (cd)or (dvd) before placing it on the external..........Make sure you do a good security/virus scan when you do the BIG move.........
I hate it when I lose valuable pictures and videos of my kiddies........

Happy Bob saved the day.... I need to revive my old Mac where all my music is languishing in unaccessibility (I know it is not a real word)
