Sensual Plant

Wow. I am watching the new edition of "The Song Remains the Same". Several obvervations:

- I must have been really stoned back when I saw this in the theater, its weird and the fantasy scenes don't appeal to me at all today

- The footage is pretty much perfect

- Disc 2 had some never been seen before footage of songs that didnt' make it onto the film

- Robert MUST have his jeans tailor made to fit because they are literally skin tight

- Jimmy Page is a rock god

- John Paul Jones ............? I know he was an important part of the band but I just can't think of a thing to say about him

- John, dear John, John had the look in his eye he was an extremist to his own detriment, but definitely one of the best drummer of all time

- No one exudes sensuality as effortlessly as Robert Plant. He doesn't have to DO a thing. By today's standards some would even call him "an out of shape bloke with bad teeth and no sense of style". BUT....as Robert stands there with his girly looking shirt open and sings and moves naturally to the music....The look in his eyes, the curl of his lips, the gorgeous golden locks, the sounds of his voice...you can't try to be that kind of sensual, you either are or your not. He IS.

You want words about John Paul Jones? Here...
Much like Ox with The Who, JPJ was an integral part of the band; unheralded, and also like Ox, underappreciated in a way that borders on pathetic

Bruce, I know he was very important, I am a huge fan of bass/bass players and know they are often overlooked. I just could not think of a thing to say about his personality as I watched him play or saw his parts in the film...other than he has cute kids if that counts. I feel bad. I guess my lack of words seemed like a put down, I can see that, but LZ would not be LZ without the four orignial band members.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Usually when you hear about Led Zeppelin, it's either Jimmy, John or Robert, but I've always loved JPJ. I suppose every band has a 'quiet one', although I'm not sure if he was quiet or not in reality. Obviously Zep would not be who they are without him.

That's one of the main things I love about them. Very rarely does a band come along where they are just so much on the same wavelength. I suppose you call it chemistry.

When I listen to a song like In My Time of Dying, I just think who else can pull that off? You can hear it. They just go off to some other place, completely tuned into each other, if that makes sense.

And yes I agree with everything you said Barbara. Robert was a God. That's another reason I love Led Zeppelin! ;)

Bonzo and Keith Moon of the Who had a similar kinetic energy to them.

Even though I dig Led Zeppelin, my tastes have always leaned more to the Who. I prefer the frenetic craziness of the late Keith Moon over that of Bonzo. Not to mention Pete Townshend's windmilling arm theatrics and songwriting skills always kept me going back for more.

The mighty Zeppelin noted recently that The Who were about songcraft, whereas they were about performance.

Not that there is anything wrong with Zep's songcraft.

I've got this on DVD, but not the new 2 disk edition. Think I'd go for the other Zeppelin DVD, with only live shows.
