Bass Lines

Here are a few songs that I believe have the best bass lines all the way thru the song. Can you think of any others?

The Allman Brothers, Berry Oakley

Pink Floyd, Roger Waters

Yes,Chris Squire

Give me some others you enjoy.

Detroit Rock City by Kiss. Walking On The Moon by The Police. Simple, but great bass lines.

Riders On The Storm. The Doors never had a regular bass player, but I believe Jerry Scheff is credited with this one. Its the hook that defines the song and all the other elements are built to support it. Instantly recognizable and to my recollection, its not repeated anywhere.

All great selections. I would add Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused and Ramble On. JPJ was so underrated as an all around musician.

I agree with Johnny that the hook sets you up for a great song.

Barbara, I cant believe I didnt include anything by Cream :-) Jack Bruce is a bass line God!

Two that immediately spring to mind are:
1. Badge - Cream
2. Virtually anything by Bernard Edwards and Chic!

I only recently discovered your wonderful blog here and had to add a bass line to those already listed:

I Want You Back - Jackson 5

Played by Motown L.A. regular Wilton Felder. That bass line gets stuck in my head for days at a time.
