Tommy

How many of you have seen the movie "Tommy"?  Yeah, that's the one, The Who and their "rock opera".  I saw it several times back in the day and just watched a few clips of it on youtube.  Cheap entertainment for a Friday night.

If you saw it, did you like it?  What scenes stick out?  What's one word you would use to describe it?

Ken Russell has made some very interesting films (The Devils is one to check out) but Tommy doesn't quite hit all the marks because key roles are handled by non-singers. It is fun to watch, though I'd rather listen to the album. The best story to come out of that time period involves Townshend, Joe Walsh and Jack Nicholson sitting around a hotel room, pissed out of their skulls and playing tunes, while Jack took lead vocals and made up filthy lyrics to a few classic songs (including a few Who favorites)

Now THAT would have been a great film.

I have it on DVD. A fine film with notable sequences being the "Pinball Wizard" and of course the big finale. One word to describe it? How about "weird"! If you let me have a few more words I'd go for "not as good as Quadrophenia" :-)

I was listening to Daltry's "Moonlighting" solo anthology the other night. Ever wondered how he'd handle Springsteen's "Born To Run"??? Quite well actually!

I saw it WAY back in college and I have to agree with rock of ages. Weird. Ann Margaret swimming in baked beans says it all.
The broadway show, however, was absolutely phenomenal. Saw it in Philadelphia during medical school as a birthday gift from my then girlfriend, now wife, Debbie. One of the best gifts ever!

I don't even remember much about Tommy. But I love the live Quadrophenia movie, much better than I thought it would be. Zak Starkey is great to watch, and Bill Idol, and Simon Townsend is wonderful. Check out some great Who pictures at www.jamesfortunephotography.com, I think the groupie with Keith lost her t-shirt somewhere.
