Rock Star for a Day

Most people don't like to admit it - but many of music lovers have fantasized of being a rock star.  I mean really - haven't you ever been driving your car listening to a great band and imagining yourself on stage in place of ____________.  ?????

I will admit to pretending (in my mind of course) to be Eddie Van Halen, Neal Pert, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Page and a few more...I dare you to share ....

I guess I have. I know that when I was in my late teens, I had an idea about me as a singer bleeding on stage - and this was before Iggy and the Stooges. My hero, though, was Keith Richards and, what with my drug use, I took the act a bit too far.

No hesitation on this one.
Stevie Nicks.

Yup, I definitely dream about being a smidge over five feet and 110 pounds, twirling on stage in all my layers of chiffon shawls, completely going crazy singing "Rhiannon" circa 1977... *sigh* haha

Actually, I've never really wanted that. I find the idea of total strangers knowing me too well, too intimately rather unnerving.

When I was younger I did want to have a voice like Peter Cetera's. I didn't want to be him, or be a star like him. I just wanted a singing voice that was that damned good! Because, literally his voice gave me chills. Whether you dig him or not, I don't think there's any denying that he has one of the most distinct singing voices in rock/pop music.

Jack Cassidy (I was a bass guitar player)...standing off to the side or in the back...just banging out bass lines that thunder and keep the music afloat...

Neil Peart, in a heartbeat.

There's an interesting article over on Popdose that delves into some of the less glamorous aspects of the rock & roll lifestyle. The author even interviewed Dawayne Bailey (ex-Silver Bullet Band, ex-Chicago), Shaun Murphy (ex-Little Feat), and John Payne (ex-Asia) to get their perspectives.

I'm with Dr John - I can't really play any instrument but Neil Peart gets me air drumming every time.

Back when I was a student, my flatmate came to complain that my stereo was too loud and caught me drumming along to YYZ by Rush. It took me a long time to live that one down. :-)

I dunno. I've wanted to be all kinds of guitarists or at least sound like them at one point or another. Clapton, Van Halen, Via all kinds of others. Just depending on what I was listening to at the time. I guess that just goes with being a musican.
