Other Music

Tonight and the Rest of My Life album coverImage via WikipediaWhat have you been listening to lately?

I've been listening to very little true Classic Rock in the last few days.  Not sure what it means but I think I just need the less familiar right now.  Sometimes life gets fragile and you  have to be careful where you visit in your own mind...

I often veer off course from my hard rock foundation while building my "listening house". I don't think there has to be a reason. We like good melodies, great singers and singable songs.....it may not matter what genre it is....Radiohead, Wilco, Queens of the Stone age are my non classic rock favs.......seano

Funny how favourites go in waves. I'm in a bit of a Pink Floyd phase following Rick's death but I dare say I'll be on to something else soon. Makes those 'All time favourite' lists a bit volatile!

I'm listenin' to Oasis, Verve, Beck and King of Leon. All new, all awesome!

Inspiring, creative, well-executed, passionate fuckin' rock!

I'm listening to a progressive instrumental alt-rock band called East of the Wall and some Norwegian black metal called Khold. I'm in one of those moods.

It`s a pity. I listen only classic rock and all the styles (or janres) closed to it. Radiohead? No, it is not my music. But I have some deviations like A.C.T., Flower Kings, Porcupine Tree, Fruitcake, Symphony X, Adajio etc. I`m not good general line keeper too.

Some on this list I LOVE, and some I will be checking out!

"Sometimes life gets fragile and you have to be careful where you visit in your own mind." --so well said.

I completely understand..it's almost like you feel, absorb, and become the music, rather than just listen. It alters your state of being, for good or bad.

There have been times for me..where the familiar has to go, for a bit,in order for me to heal or become clear...so to speak.

Does that make sense? I'm rambling today, and have been listening to Iced Earth all morning hoping to wake myself up!

I remember Nina Gordon from her days as the lead singer of Veruca Salt. "Seether" is one of my favorite songs.

Lately, I've been listening to new CDs by Raphael Saadiq, Dion (he did an album of remakes of 50s tunes), and Sugarland.

Damn! I knew I'd heard of Nina Gordon before. Let me just see...yes, here it is, my copy of 'American Thighs'. Haven't played it since, well about 1994. Here's a good reason to give it a spin.

Thanks Malcolm!

just discovered hiromi uehara, japanese jazz fusion pianist, pretty incredible

also love st germain (the ultimate chill outfit), joanne newsom, keanne (great UK indie), also new buddy guy album is pretty good, old keith jarrett (koln concert), definitely not the new Metallica which really sucks

You may have noticed that I deleted a comment...I assume we have all heard of Viagra and didn't need an ad for it here to tell us where to get a good deal on some.

I too am listening to Porcupine Tree.

For the unfamiliar, their last release "Fear of a Blank Planet" featured both Alex Lifeson and Robert Fripp. Of further note, the reader's of Modern Drummer Magazine voted their drummer Gavin Harrison, best prog drummer. The second year in a row and both times over Neil Peart!

I always have a mix of music playing, usually including classic rock, metal, classical, prog, goth/goth metal, '80s music, and occasional jazz and rap.

If you're more curious than that, I usually post my car's 6-CD changer lineup each week on Ray's site (The Metal Minute) when he writes his "Whaddya Listenin' To Wednesdays" post. Probably more than you want/need to know!

Hi Barbara:
I knew "Resistance was futile" so here I am. music is really powerful and can bring back memories - good or bad - it happens to me all the time ,as I'm sure it does to everyone. What you may need is a little "Walkin' on Sunshine"...no?? When I'm feeling out of sorts, alittle George Thorogood fixes me right up. Talk with you soon - "I'll be Back". (I forgot to mention that I'm a walking cliche)
