I found this interesting, I have no desire to see this movie, but I would like to hear JD sing and decide for myself if he sounds like one of my favorites of all time...David Bowie:
Depp denies David Bowie comparison

Johnny Depp has denied rumours that he modelled his singing on David Bowie in new movie Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.Rex Features
The actor, who sings for the first time onscreen in director Tim Burton's horror musical, famously based himself on Rolling Stones legend Keith Richards in the Pirates of the Caribbean
However, although he admitted that several people had likened him to the '70s icon, he denied trying to copy any existing singers.
He said: "I wouldn't ever dream of attempting to channel David Bowie, he's a big hero of mine. If there's a similarity, it wasn't intentional, certainly not. [But] it's a nice compliment."
The 44-year-old also dismissed claims that he had based his performance as Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory on Michael Jackson, although he joked that he may one day play the pop legend in a TV movie.

I'm sure it was unintentional, but it's hard to escape influence -- just an unconscious form of flattery, really. I'd like to hear it just for kicks and giggles.

I'm not sure who started this but he does not sound like David Bowie. He sounds like Captain Jack Sparrow singing. Literally like he stepped off the Black Pearl and onto Fleet Street not bothering to change his voice even in the slightest.
Yes and it just so happens that Capn Jack Sparrow sounds alot like David Bowie.
Not only does Johnny sound uncannily like the David Bowie of the "London Boys" era, but he also looks like Marc Bolan who once sported a streak in his hair too.
There is definitely a big Glam Rock influrnce going on here and Johnny melds it all brilliantly!
