Album Covers

Some album covers are unforgettable. Just looking at them takes me back to a different time and place....lots of wild and fun memories...

What are some of your favorites? Let me know and I will post them here.

This is a bit of a toughie-- there are so many great covers to choose from.

But I think the one album cover that packs the biggest emotional wallop for me is Billy Joel's The Stranger. I still remember being about 3 or 4 years old and wandering into my sister, Laurie's, bedroom and asking her to play her 8 track of that album and then I'd ask her a barrage of questions about the picture on the sleeve of the 8-track which she did her best to answer.

So many to choose from! My favorite classic rock album covers:

The Police, Synchronicity
King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King
Led Zeppelin, Physical Graffiti
The Who, Who's Next
Genesis, Duke
Steve Hackett, Voyage of the Acolyte

And I'm putting links to both this and your Ramble On blog up on my site. Keep the good stuff coming!

Some other favorite album covers include:

Sons of Champlin Loosen Up Naturally
Chicago XI
Genesis Selling England By the Pound
Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Toto Hydra
Peter Cetera s/t debut
The Beach Boys Smile (even though the album was never actually released, I kind of prefer the original Beach Boys cover art to the cover art that Brian Wilson inevitably used for his completed version)
Styx The Grand Illusion

But the best cover art, imho, is that which was designed by Roger Dean (most of Yes album covers and many of Asia's album covers as well). Dean's lush "futurescapes" are all quite pleasing to the eye.

I always loved the cover of "Some Girls" when I was little. I loved playing with all the faces. It's still my favorite Stones album, but not for that reason!

The cover for Duran Duran's "Rio" is pretty cool. I also always thought Kansas had some pretty groovy covers, especially "Point of Know Return".
