This is a bit of a toughie-- there are so many great covers to choose from.
But I think the one album cover that packs the biggest emotional wallop for me is Billy Joel's The Stranger. I still remember being about 3 or 4 years old and wandering into my sister, Laurie's, bedroom and asking her to play her 8 track of that album and then I'd ask her a barrage of questions about the picture on the sleeve of the 8-track which she did her best to answer.
So many to choose from! My favorite classic rock album covers:
The Police, Synchronicity King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King Led Zeppelin, Physical Graffiti The Who, Who's Next Genesis, Duke Steve Hackett, Voyage of the Acolyte
And I'm putting links to both this and your Ramble On blog up on my site. Keep the good stuff coming!
Sons of Champlin Loosen Up Naturally Chicago XI Genesis Selling England By the Pound Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Toto Hydra Peter Cetera s/t debut The Beach Boys Smile (even though the album was never actually released, I kind of prefer the original Beach Boys cover art to the cover art that Brian Wilson inevitably used for his completed version) Styx The Grand Illusion
But the best cover art, imho, is that which was designed by Roger Dean (most of Yes album covers and many of Asia's album covers as well). Dean's lush "futurescapes" are all quite pleasing to the eye.
I always loved the cover of "Some Girls" when I was little. I loved playing with all the faces. It's still my favorite Stones album, but not for that reason!
The cover for Duran Duran's "Rio" is pretty cool. I also always thought Kansas had some pretty groovy covers, especially "Point of Know Return".
Let's see, I would say Iron Maiden-The number of the beast Black Sabbath-s/t Led Zeppelin-Houses of the holy Rush-Grace under pressure Dio-The last in line Kansas-Point of no return Rolling Stones-Exile on main street Rainbow-Rising Van Halen-1984
Zappa - We're Only in It for the Money Velvet Teen - Out of the Fierce Parade Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium (jellyfish side) Any Iron Maiden album Janes Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
Stones: Sticky Fingers Stones: Throught the Past Darkly The Clash: London Calling Nirvana: Nevermind Roxy Music: Country life Springsteen: Darkness Neil Young: After the Gold Rush (inside cover)
Ok, Rick...only for you will I backtrack on my blog and add these. I almost put Nevermind on here cause to be honest, I love the little naked boy grabbing for money in the pool with his little penis showing. It says a lot.
