First Music Loss of the New Year - Gerry Rafferty

Please visit "Gone But Not Forgotten" for my thoughts on this loss.  His voice was always so soothing to me for some reason.  He may be gone, but his music lives on and is still played on the airwaves regularly.

This may seem like a morbid question, but many of our Rockers are getting up their in age.  I sometimes wonder who will go next.  I hope all my favorites live well into their 80's.  Isn't Mick already in his 80's?

I read his obituary on The Guardian website earlier today.

Apparently he was never able to overcome his demons. I've always enjoyed Baker Street quite a lot actually. Right Down the Line and Stuck In the Middle were also enjoyable songs.

Get It Right Next Time was my personal favorite, although anything from Baker Street or City to City were keepers. In terms of who's next to go, I don't know. I think Chuck Berry might be close, given his NYE collapse due to exhaustion. Who knows the real story., but he is indeed past 80...

It's so strange...when I first saw this post I passed it by because I didn't even know who he was by the name alone.

But then this song I have always loved stuck in my head today and was driving me crazy, so I Googled it (the line "give up the booze and the one night stands" was the only thing I knew - I was only 7 when the song was popular). Weird to find out that he had died a few days ago. So I came here to see what Barbara had to say about him.

He was pretty young, but his music will live on for a very long time.
