A Lad Insane

I was in the mood for some Bowie tonight.  Its amazing how much music he's produced over the years.  This will always be one of my favorites.  It was the first album that came out AFTER he became well known, it followed Ziggy, and that was a very hard act to follow.  Here is what David had to say about Aladdin Sane:

"Bowie himself described Aladdin Sane as simply "Ziggy goes to America", most of the tracks being observations he composed on the road during his 1972 U.S. tour – the reason for the place names following each song title on the original record sleeve.  Biographer Christopher Sandford believed the album showed that Bowie "was simultaneously appalled and fixated by America".

Do you like David Bowie?  Which songs/albums/era?

I was maybe 13 when I fell in love with David Bowie. It happened with the song Heroes in the movie Christiane F (which shocked me back then, by the way).
But to answer the question, I'd say that my favourite record right now is The man who sold the world.

Maxi, Its hard to pick a favorite when they are all so uniquely good.

Hi Southern, I fell in love with Bowie when I was a teen and he was Ziggy - that's kind of scary now that I think about it. :) The last time I saw him in concert was about 10 years ago, he was wearing a classy black suit and was down to earth and friendly. Gotta love David!

omg....Rebel,Rebel,...and Changes !...oh wait, Suffragette City ...yeah, they're all on the same album, that I'm STILL in love with. Just as an indicator, even now...when I go out running, or even on the treadmill,...I have a routine that I must begin the run with Rebel, Rebel,...just gets me charged up. :)

Has to be Hunky Dory for me too - although I did have a brief period od Diamond Dogs.

Aladdin Sane was one of those albums that I really wanted for the cover alone, but have never owned. Funny how things pan out...

I am not exaggerating when I say I may own everything David Bowie has ever recorded. His last album that will be considered a rock classic is Scary Monsters. I saw him live when he toured with Tin Machine.

Have loved Bowie ever since I heard him back when I was about...15 maybe? Some of his stuff is a bit 'out there' for me but still good compared to some other stuff out at the time.
Found a cool site a few weeks ago that sells some of his his t-shirts called SugarBullets.co.uk, have gotten a few from them in the past. Just a heads up for peeps.
Here's a link

Hi Barbara and hi everybody.
I saw Bowie twice many years ago in Rome (The Glass Spider and the Sound + Vision tour). Two great shows!

I'm not big into Bowie. I dig some of his stuff and appreciate his cultural impact and the impact he's had on music.

I dig Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes and his duet with Queen-- Under Pressure the most. I have one of his greatest hits albums and his Hunky Dory album but that's about it for Bowie's presence in my music collection... Oh I do have an mp3 from the post 9/11 Concert for America with him covering Simon & Garfunkel's America as well (I believe I also have Neil Young's cover of Lennon's Imagine from the same concert).

David Bowie is so great because while he doesn't do it alone, he does orchestrate and navigate his way through time and he somehow finds people and speaks to them. It's awesome. There's a live recording, sans video, on youtube of him singing "Life on Mars" and it's incredible.
