We Miss You, John

I wasn't going to share my "where I was when I heard the news" today because its a very personal memory that contains a lot of emotion. Its eerie. Here is the short version:

I was with a friend who had just completed a charcoal portrait of Lennon. He was showing it to me when the news came on the TV that John had been shot.

There are more details but too painful to discuss. Obviously it was traumatic and shocking.

As with JFK, this is one I will always remember where I was when I heard...

I wish none of them had died. Morrison, Janis and John Lennon.
John should have made music forever, like Dylan.

I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the news of John's death. He had so much more to give.

Very sad. I heard about it the next day while getting ready for school.

I was only 4 when Lennon was killed. Thus I don't remember where I was or what I was doing when it happened.

He and Harry Chapin (whose untimely demise was less than a year after Lennon's) both gave so much back to the world. I sometimes wonder about the songs they never had the chance to write and the causes they never had the chance to champion because they were taken from us before they had the opportunity to write those songs and champion those causes.

Even if I don't necessarily agree with the causes they championed and sometimes not the way in which they championed those causes, I have deep admiration for them as they didn't just talk the talk, they walked the walk.
