Funeral Music:

Its kinda funny that my sister and I just discussed this topic today and then I see it on "Classic Rock Blog". You should drop by there, he's got a funny post. But please leave your answer here too, I want to know:

What Music You Would Have Played at Your Funeral?

I have so many chosen, its hard to narrow it down but here are a few:

Layla, Derek & the Dominoes
Train in Vain, The Clash
Still You Turn Me On, Emmerson, Lake & Palmer
Paradise City, Guns & Roses
She's The One, Bruce
Going to California, Zeppelin
Suicide Blonde, INXS
Beautiful Day, U2
Crimson & Clover, Tommy Shondell
and last but not least
Bye Bye Love, The Cars

Okay...so its a weird mix but I dig it...

I'd have "Onwards" by Afro Celt Sound System played. They're my favorite band, and the title is so appropriate.

In death-related news, I just found out that George Carlin died :( I hope he found a place for his stuff, because he can't take it with him.

Wish You Were Here, Pink Floyd
The Rain Song, Led Zeppelin
Come Together, The Beatles
Fearless, Pink Floyd

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Unless you write your wishes down somewhere these songs might not happen at your funeral. Planning your own funeral can be a surreal experience.

I've often wondered about this, but I could never come up with any good answers. I always used to say "The End" by The Doors but that's a pretty morbid song. I have sort of switched to "Imagine" from Lennon. It's not really a funeral song but it is soothing and utopian.

On the other hand, I don't even really want a funeral, I don't want people to waste their time to mourn me.

Since viewings/funerals are for family and friends (the person in the casket is dead after all), I'd want people to play the music that made them think of me (songs like the Angry Samoans' "You Stupid Asshole" most likely). If I had to pick, I'd go with something really weird and long, so I could get a good laugh from heaven (hopefully) as everyone had to suffer through it.

I read somewhere that Joey Ramone had asked that U2's "Beautiful Day" be played in his last moments. That seems like a good way to go.

Years ago I began putting together a cassette of music that will be played when I am laid (to rest) So I have 90 minutes of music selected. Bob suggests letting the people left behind pick the music..but most of my friends have no musical intelligence!

I looked at it the other day and said...time to review and burn to a CD

Russ, I am sorry to hear that about George, he was one of those pioneers of comedy.

Dan, Perfect. Can I just use those for mine too? :)

Jeff, I feel the same - I don't really want a funeral but its for the ones left behind, I think its part of the healing process. Imagine was going to be on my list too.

Bob, good point. I't trust my sis to pick out good music. In fact anyone who knows me would play probably figure out to play Bruce or U2. Cool about Joey Ramone...

Bond, your getting laid remark was not lost on me ... lol !!

Beautiful Day and MLK are my U2 choices. Also gotta have The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony.

I only got 2 songs in mind...

Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" since it represents my life and i want my friends to remember me everytime they hear that song.

The second song is U2's "Stuck in the Moment"...i just love that song. :-)

I came here to check out your Friday 5 "You" songs but found myself down here instead. This is a terrific idea for a post and I'm stealing it.

The song that comes instantly to mind for me is "Mary's Place" by Bruce.
