Girl,,,as a lifetime subscriber, yes till the end of my life.....Rolling Stone Magazine has and will always be there for me.........Even online, the features are the best..........
No! Too liberal for me, although I do enjoy the bios especially when they feature the old bands.
Yo! Who doesn't Love Pink floyd!?!?!?!I do http://www.rockstarautoglass.com
Good for you Titan :) You're not alone, its an iconic mag for sure!!Dan, I can't even figure out why I don't like it...but I do read it when it highlights someone I really like.Hey auto glass, I love PF too but that has nothing to do with this post...hmmm I wonder if you are spam???? I'll check.
RS takes a lot of shots for being the rock magazine of the baby boomers (which is bad, because so many have grown old and that's not what rock n roll is about) and that's both fair and unfair. When they make a list of the best this or that, their age bias shows, but no other magazine covers rock and its peripheral genres as well. Sure, there are better magazines for niches, but nothing as broad. All in all, I think it's a good magazine. You just have to know its biases.
I read RS more than any other music magazine, simply because no other magazine covers the music I like better. Sure, RS will cover rap and pop groups but too many magazines out their cater to specific genres, most of which I do not like (i.e. modern punk or metal.) Like Bob said, RS gives pretty broad coverage. I may disagree with many of their reviews but they typically have great articles, and they simply cover the music I like better than any other magazine that I know.
I like Classic Rock and Guitar World, though GW tends to bore me when they focus on the "punk" groups. Rolling Stone never did anything for me. Too much politics, too many social concerns . . . when I pick up a music mag I want to read about . . . gasp . . . music!
I used to read RS, but lately it bores me. Too much focus on new bands just because they hit it big (for example, Britney on the cover back in '01, I think it was). I find that sampling music-related blogs provides more useful and interesting information than RS or any other music mag.
I have been a subscriber to RS since I went to college in 1972. I have almost every cover since then (I think I am missing about 150 due to moves and stuff)...I used to save the whole magazine, but that became too much, now I just save the covers except for the special issues which I save in their entirety. Yes they cover too many of the pop icons (ie Brittany) and the covers are sometimes more about popularity than news (ie The Hills over Bo)And the politics are certainly left leaning (but every publication has their slant from Time to Esquire) But they also have some incredible reporting on the world (the misuse of funds in Iraq done recently)and that is where I first learned of the most excellent Hunter S. ThompsonAm I their desired demographic now? Probably not. Do I still read it cover to covers? No I skip the rap stuff and the kiddie things.Would I stop my subscription? Nah, as a matter of fact, i just sent in my next two-year check.
I Like RS, but NME is also interesting, I have read Spin and I have read Billboard mostly for their rankings
I subscribe to Rolling Stone but the recent cover with those beyotches from The Hills nearly did that in. Kerrang, NME and Spin I also read. Gilmore looks sooooooo stoned in that picture :P
Nay.Anything that makes me open my eyes and concentrate is bad bad bad.I don't even read anymore; I pay a temp with a mellifluous voice and good teeth. Even Kant sounds good, and I hate him.But seriously, it's always been about the music to me. I never was one to pick up a magazine on any subject, for that matter. Pink Floyd rules, Britney sucks; I could care less what RS thinks of that.
no good for me, too many non rock bands let in; Classic Rock, Uncut, Mojo and Record Collector are the best around in my bookNME used to be in their league, a very long time ago (i think it was called melody maker then) , now it is the champion of every new UK band as the bext big thing, yes, some are, but many fall by the wayside very quickly. No question. Classic Rock is the best all around rock magazine out there. I also read Uncut, Mojo (at times) some of the various metal mags, but if I could only have one, Classic Rock. And the free CD's are usually quite good.RacerThe Ripple Effectwww.ripplemusic.blogspot.com
