Aersosmith's bassist in unergoing radiation for throat cancer but will re-join the tour by October. I pray that he was a full recovery and is able to continue rocking for many more years.
Which brings up a QUESTION:
Some bands seem to keep going forever (i.e. The Stones). What do you think a good indicator is for a band to call it quits AND can you think of any old time rockers that have gone past limit?

I just read this news this morning. And about your question, I think it is something I should think about a bit more so when I think of a good answer I'll leave another comment.
Maybe when they spend more time in the hospital than on stage, it's time.

I'm with Ben. There are a lot of groups that are done. Stones, Aerosmith, MeatLoaf and Neil Young are among them.
As much as I love their music, Chicago is long overdue to call it quits. Currently 2 of the 3 members of the horn section are temporarily out for health or family reasons leaving only 2 original members in the current touring line-up.
The lack of variety in their setlist year after year is another indicator that its time for these guys to call it quits-- add to it that lead vocalist Jason Scheff doesn't have the range he once had, therefore he doesn't have the ability to cover the Cetera era material convincingly any longer.
Stick a fork in them, they're done!
Styx is another band that should probably call it quits. Firing founding member Dennis DeYoung was a huge mistake and the band currently touring as Styx only has one original member remaining. It's not Styx, it's karaoke Styx.
The current line-up of Little River Band only carries the name due to winning a lawsuit in Aussie courts giving them the rights to the name. None of the current members of the band are original. 2 of them have been in the band since the early eighties but the core of the band is gone. Meanwhile founding LRB members Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles, and Graham Goble are forced to tour Australia as "Birtles, Goble, and Shorrock" as they no longer have the right to use the name of the band they founded back in the early seventies.
I disagree with mike above regarding neil young. anyone who thinkinking neil is past his shelf life has not listened to is latest "Living with War" or has seen him perform on the current CSN&Y tour. Although I respect Mike's opinion,I am not going to get into a point-countertpoint thing here. I'm just saying that for me NY is still a vital artist and I will follow his career with interest.
Peace, out.
Kiss should call it quits asap. They're long over. It's pathetic.
