He's certainly my favorite guitarist of all time. He's so influental, it's scary. Name a guitarist, and if he or she wasn't influenced by Jimi directly, he or she was influenced by someone who was.
For a different take on Jimi's music listen to the Band of Gnawa playing a superb version of the classic from the Band of Gypsies album, "Who Knows" , at the 10th Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival held in June 2007. For other rock fans, the set includes great Gnaoua-inspired versions of other rock classics like Gallow's Pole and Immigrant Song.
French guitarists Louis Bertignac and Jean-Philippe Rykiel lead the Band of Gnawa and can certainly be mentioned on the same page as Jimi Hendrix. Take alisten and let me know what you think.
