21 Year Anniversary of LIVE AID

Where were you 21 years ago today on July 13, 1985 ???

I can tell you exactly where I was, what I was doing, who I was with, and even what I was wearing! It was a GREAT DAY in not only Rock n Roll history, but also in one of the first world wide efforts at bringing awareness to poverty and starvation in Africa.
Where: My back yard. We pulled the TV set to the edge of the sliding glass door and set up beach chairs, two fans, an ice chest full of beer and some munchies What: ROCKING OUT to some of the best bands around at the time! Who: It was me and my sister Wearing: A purple and lavender bikini and lots of sunscreen We sat there for hours and didn't miss a thing! Check the above link out for some great details. Here are some of my fave performances (even Princess Diana was there!)

CHECK OUT THESE PHOTOS! LOOK HOW YOUNG EVERYONE WAS! ESPECIALLY BONO - HE WAS BARELY OUT OF HIS TEENS!

TRIVIA: What band reunited for this one event and has never played together again since then?

I DECIDED NOT TO POST THE PIC OF MYSELF IN THE STRING BIKINI.

Roger Waters & The Who in Hyde Park

Musician Roger Waters performs at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark July 2, 2006. Waters may have been the intellectual head of the Hard Rock Cafe's Hyde Park Calling festival on Saturday (July 1) night, with a meticulously thunderous set, but the Who were clearly the heart on Sunday night with a warm and raucous performance. Metal Mark Reviews Led Zeppelin III

Mark, at Heavy Metal Time Machine , is into Heavy Metal so we enjoy different bands. Every now and then our tastes collide and he writes about a band I really love! Yesterday was one of those days! He did an excellent review on Led Zep III! Check it out.

Johnny Depp

Since this blog is about music I haven't had a logical reason to post a photo of JD here, but thanks to Rolling Stone Mag I was reminded that Johnny first moved to LA to start a band. Of course I could have used the Keith Richard connection.

"Depp moved to Los Angeles from Florida, where he spent most of his childhood, when he was twenty…he ha d a band, and his only dream was to play rock & roll -- as a guitarist, not a frontman. "I never wanted to be the lead singer," he says. "Never wanted that kind of attention." Depp pauses to consider this.
"Weird," he finally adds.

You probably already know this - Keith has agreed to play Jack Sparrow's father in the 3rd Pirates movie. Now that will be fun!

Chrissie Hynde's Advice to Chick Rockers:

I've always considered Chrissie to be the ultimate female rocker, partly because she's not in the band as a "female" she's there to perform. Here's a few things she has to say to other women in rock (many who obviously need her advice)

Technorati technorati tags: ,

1. "Don't moan about being a chick, refer to feminism or complain about sexist discrimination. We've all been screwed over but no one wants to hear a whining female" (Stevie Nicks, please take note - you whine!)

2. "Never pretend to know more than you do. If you don't know chord names refer to the dots. Don't go near the desk unless you plan on becoming an engineer."

3. "Make the other band members look and sound good. Bring out the best in them; that's your job. Oh, and you better sound good too. "

4. "Do not insist on working only with females, get the best person for the job. If it happens to be a woman, great - you'll have someone to go to department stores with you on tour instead of making one of the road crew go with you. "

5. "If you sing don't belt or screech. No one wants to hear that shit; it sounds hysterical."

6. "Try not to get sexually involved with any member of the band. It will only end in tears."

7. "Don't think that sticking your boobs our and trying to look sexy will help. Remember - you're in a rock and roll band. It's not ""f" me", it's "f" you."

8. "Don't take advice from people like me. Do your own thing always."
