2006 Grammy Awards

Here are my thoughts so far, it's only half over, maybe I'll review the rest later. In my humble opinion (photos below):

The best Acceptance Speeches were by The Edge because he thanked the people that have continued to listen to them over the years allow them to be able to keep doing what they do AND by Bono when he explained what the album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" was about (his dad) and thanked him for giving him the voice and the attitude to use it.

The stupidest duo was putting Mary J. Blige with Bono to ruin (sorry, I mean sing) one of my favorite U2 songs, "One".

Funkiest maternity gown with class: Gwen Stefani

The most sincere Acceptance goes to Kelly Clarkson who really seems like a sweet girl and was pretty surprised that she won - but I think Gwen Stefani should have.

The second hottest legs on earth goes to Madonna (Tina in number one still). Love her or hate her, she has charisma, talent and a great bod.

Most deserved lifetime achievement award: David Bowie has more talent in his little finger than some of these groups have combined. Ugh.

The person I never would have recognized in a million years goes to Joe Perry. If he had not been standing next to Steven, I would not have known it was him.

I agree Mary J. Blige and Bono together just doesn't work, two totally different voices and it meshed terribly.

I LOVED Mary J and Bono together, what is wrong with you people! Ha ha - I like saying "You people" it is always offensive...

I guess I just like both of them so much that they could have clucked like chickens and I would have loved it.

Hasn't Sir Paul gotten enough? Hasn't he won enough? Come On! I didn't grow up with the Beatles, I have NEVER really cared for their music and I don't know what all the hooplah is about Sir Paul. Last night he was good, but Kelly's vocals kick butt! And she is a class act. Give her some credit.

Eddo, I do think Kelly's vocals kicked butt and so did Mariah's but I can not stand Mariah, she literally makes me feel a bit ill. I am not sure why. I don't get that from too many people. Dang, now I am dissing people on my blog...not good. I better shut up.

I think the "One" thing would have worked much better if Mary had simply covered it, without U2, doing an r&b arrangement.

Robert Johnson also earned his lifetime achievement award. Two sessions, died before he was thirty, and his music inspired the very bands that gave us what we know as rock music. Personally, I thought it was tacky to do the lifetime achievements right before giving other awards. Haven't these folks achieved enough to deserve their own moment in the spotlight? Oh, wait, I'm sorry, that would take away from performance time. Nevermind.

I missed Robert Johnsons's Award but the way they just sped by those was kind of insulting to me. If someone earned a LIFETIME acheivement maybe they need to think of a reason to have another show just for them. Can you imagine them assembling all the people that Robert J. influenced to cover his most popular songs? THAT would be cool!

Hmmm good idea . . . now that Cream is back together . . . and they got a lifetime achievement too . . . missed opportunities!

My favorite part?
The Gorillas with Madonna. The interaction AMAZED me! How cool. If anyone has any clues as to how they pulled it off, please let me know. When Madonna walked behind the cartoon guitarist, I laughed out loud.

Agree on Bowie 100%. As for Joe Perry, I love the music ... but could he look any more like Greta Van Susteren?
