I know that this song is about some prisoner ... maybe the life of someone in jail or similar ... don't know exactly though ... You can also get a hint from Limpbizkit's video of this song which they covered ..
Layla: "Behind Blue Eyes" was supposed 2 B a portrait of the villain "Brick" in Pete Townshend's proposed rock-opera LIFEHOUSE, the next studio-recording project The Who tackled after TOMMY. But the project fell apart, Pete hadda nervous breakdown, & WHO'S NEXT was an attempt 2 "salvage" mosta the songs from LIFEHOUSE.
(Lotta people thot Pete was writing about HIMSELF in this song.)
Pete has written in the last decade that the LIFEHOUSE project isn't dead yet, & apparently at 1time U could buy Pete's LIFEHOUSE demos from Rhino/Handmade's website....
This is also 1 of my daughter's favrite songs, which makes me smile.... -- TAD.
