The Crossroads Curse?

Duane, he died way too young. When I was a teen there was a wall in Laguna Beach, right on the beach dedicated to Duane.

ROBERT JOHNSON AND THE CROSSROADS CURSE This is something I had never heard of before, but as I was searching the web for a decent picture of Duane Allman (still haven't found one) I came across this rather spooky, though-prokoving website. I don't believe in "the curse" but it is pretty coinsidental that the the man that wrote the song "Crossroads" and three famous bands that frequently played it live and/or recorded it, (Eric Clapton, Lynrd Skynrd, and The Allman Brothers) all met with tragedy, death and loss of loved one.

I will never forgot that day. It was a hot afternoon and my sister and had to watch the entire thing broadcast live but we didn't want to sit in the house all day. So we had a brilliant plan. We got an extension cord and pulled the TV set out to the edge of the sliding glass doors and then plugged in fans and sat in lounge chairs, sunning, drinking beer and watching the show. My highlights were Robert, Jimmy and John Paul re-uniting with Jason Bonham on drums, David Bowie and Mick Jagger via video, Power Station and .... well every moment was outstanding. It gives me chills. That's it, I'm headed for the store to buy my copy!

I'm depressed today so what better thing to post than my un-used tickets from the only chance I ever had to see Led Zeppelin. Notice the price - $8.75! Can you believe that!

If you want to hear the whole sad story as to why we showed up for this concert but weren't allowed in, give me a post and I will share on here. Long story short: my boyfriend messed up on the dates and we were a day late for this concert.

I am going to go put on Kashmir and try to feel better.

ELP was one of the very first PROGRESSIVE ROCK BANDS.

My memories of them include one of the most incredible concerts I have ever witnessed. It was as if a whole symphony had combined with a rock band to produce this incredible sound...

BUT, it was only THREE GUYS!

Keith Emerson is one of the most innovative and talented keyboardists ever. He was one of the first players to make the Moog synthesizer well-known.

Carl Palmer was a "drum wizards" His drum kit cost $25,000 to put together and that was back in 1970! It had every percussion instrument you can think of.

Greg Lake not only played bass and guitar, but his voice was one of the sexiest, most mellow voices in rock...some people called it "angelic".

Drugs.

That's that I think off when I think of Pink Floyd. I love David Gilmore, I loved their music (don't listen much anymore). Pink Floyd took me to another dimension, literally. May 1977, Anaheim Stadium, The Animals Tour, red wine, LSD, lying on the grass, watching the huge inflated animals floating overhead, listening to Comfortably Numb and Wish you Were Here, Jon, Kathy, Scott, Frans. I never wanted that concert to end.

Note to the person who posted here earlier: Pink Floyd is still a great band, but drugs are NOT. I hope that this post did seem that I am condoning the use of them, because I pray every day that my son will never do drugs. I am just relating a story of a night I will never forget.

I have to admit I am not a huge STYX fan, but this is one helluva good recording of some great rock songs! I give it a thumbs up for sure. Let me know what you think. My fave song on this CD: so far "I can't find my way home" but I still have 6 others to listen to. Makes we want to party!!! :)

$400 a ticket for U2

WOW. $400 is the most I have ever paid for tickets. But out of the hundreds of concerts I have been too - never once have I seen one of my favorites, U2. It's about time! And I am sure it will be worth every penny.

Does anyone NOT recognize this photo? If so, can I guess that you are very young and your parents probably had not yet met when this photo was taken (1973). Robert Plant was so different from anyone else of that era. This is a classic shot and I love it - not just because of how darn good looking and sensual Robert is, but because of the symbolism and the irony of the white dove, the balance of his masculinity and his softer side, the booze, the cig, the smile the belt buckle...it's all good.

Time and partying has taken a bit of a toll on Robert. He's not the sexy long haired front man he once was, BUT, HIS TALENT HAS NOT diminished. He released his new CD Migthy Rearranger and it's great! Check out the review and be sure to take a listen.
