NEW CLUES!

Wanderinginspace has provided us with some new clues and corrected and connfirmed the answers, so the ones listed on the post are all correct as of right now.

Here are the clues:

6 is hard… southern rocker

7 is also tough… part of a group that justifiably probably should have 2 people in here.

15 is tough. what he is holding is a cup of tea.

22 don’t think its a tough one… based in part on a pretty well know image of him on a live album.

23 also not hard i think. other than dylan… who is the biggest male folk rocker?

25 i think is the hardest one. very well respected/influential by other musicians, but probably not recognizable by a majority of the public. same goes for #7.

27 he has been mentioned in here, but not for the correct number.

28 is Stevie Nicks which was ruled out accidentally as i had been mistakenly saying 65-75. its really more about a generation/attitude of rock despite what years they peaked.

Thanks all of you for participating!!!

John Mellencamp "Life, Death, Love and Freedom"

I received my copy of this to review. I'd h eard great things about this CD, one friend (BV!) going so far as to say it was very much like something Springsteen would write. Well, that gave me an attitude of "Ha, sure, John is okay but comparing him to Bruce? A bit much."

I hadn't even bothered to pay attention to John Mellencamp for years. But let me tell you - this album really is GREAT. I loved it at first listen, which is rare for me. I am tempted to go back and see what his last few albums sound like to compare them. I can say he's matured a lot and his music shows it, but geez hopefully we all have. My last album by him was in 1985, Scarecrow. I would recommend this and rate it a "B+". Sorry this review is not more analytical....for a much more deatiled and well-written review visit Vinyl Bob at Rock and Roll Meandering Nonsense.

You can watch the video release of "My Sweet Love" here.

Where were you in '72?

Recently a bootleg of a legendary David Bowie concert has been officially released. You can read more about it over at About Classic Rock.

Seeing Bowie back in the 70's was AMAZING. I wasn't at the '72 show but did see him in '76. He was at the height of his androgynous glam stage and there was no one else like him. I've stayed a fan over the years and have loved watching him evolve and change into different personas.

The one I like best is - David Bowie, the real deal. He is so personable and funny on stage, it was almost surprising to me to see that side of him after only knowing him as Ziggy, Aladin, The Tall White Duke.....

What about you? Do you like Bowie? Do you have a favorite era?

AC/DC and Walmart?

The first single from AC/DC's new studio album will be "Runaway
Train." Tentatively- titled Black Ice, the disc is due out on Oct.
28th in North America via an exclusive deal with Wal-Mart.

Well I hope I am offered an advance copy to review. I haven't been a huge fan of them since back in the early days but it will be interesting to see what they come up with for this new album.

Speaking of reviews...I got John Melencamps new one in the mail yesterday and will be giving it a listen today. He's another one that I haven't really paid much attention to in recent years but so far this new recording has gotten some good reviews.

Musical Ice Cream?

I love Ben and Jerry's ice cream, and they love Elton John so they made a flavor just for him:

So, help me think of some other ice cream flavor songs....I know you are all very creative and will come up with some great stuff! Here's a few if B&J's decide to make flavors for Bruce:

"Darkness on the Fudge of Town" Bruce
"Thunder Rocky Road"
"Girls in Their Summer Chocolate"
"Cherry Darling"

Beckeye is Getting Famous...

Do you read Becky's blog, The Pop Eye? Even if you're not into pop culture you should be checking her out just for her hilarious take on things and her flair for writing. She's snarky, smart and talented.

She's been getting some notoriety lately! Her latest guest appearance is on none other than The Huffington Post. Even if you don't like that site, its one of the MOST POPULAR on the entire Internet!

She doesn't stop by here very often anymore, you know how those people get when they think they're all that and a bag of chips. I think its our duty to keep her grounded and not forget the little people once she hits the big time. Will someone leave her a comment and tell her Layla said to get her butt over here once in awhile :) Thanks!

The Most Creative Year In Rock was:

Paul over at Rock Revival asks a great question, but its hard for me to come up with an answer, it would take days of thinking. In the meantime why don't you have a go at it:

What do you think is the most creative seminal year in rock ?

Check out Rock Revival to see what you think of the year Paul chose...I think he picked a damn good one.

If you were Led Zeppelin, what would you do?

Guitare du jeu Guitar Hero II. Photo of the gu...Image via WikipediaReal Rock News has a post about how LZ is not so sure they want to be featured on Guitar Hero or a similar game. You can read the article here for more details.

As RRN points out, they have a legitimate reason for not wanting to participate:

According to a Led Zeppelin spokesman, the bands reluctance to involve themselves with the game scene stems not from the issue of money, but from their reluctance to lend out their master tapes that would be required to add the the groups legendary music to the games.

My thought was that they should do it because it would generate tons of money which they could donate all to charity (I mean really - they probably all have way more money than they could possibly use right?)

What do you think?

Supertramp

You don't hear much about this band these days, but they were a huge part of my life musically and socially in the 80's. Good time.

Friends:

This was Danny's last performance with Bruce and the E Street Band. Of course at that time, no one would know his death would be only a few months away. Take three minutes and 22 second of your life to watch this. You'll see, and maybe even feel, the heart of this band and the love that Bruce had for his long time friend Danny.

The look on Danny's face here breaks my heart because I think somehow he knew...

RIP to him. He's on my mind because as all of Bruce people know - "4th of July" was Danny and Bruce's special song to perform together.
