The Crossroads Curse?

Duane, he died way too young. When I was a teen there was a wall in Laguna Beach, right on the beach dedicated to Duane. Posted by Hello

ROBERT JOHNSON AND THE CROSSROADS CURSE This is something I had never heard of before, but as I was searching the web for a decent picture of Duane Allman (still haven't found one) I came across this rather spooky, though-prokoving website. I don't believe in "the curse" but it is pretty coinsidental that the the man that wrote the song "Crossroads" and three famous bands that frequently played it live and/or recorded it, (Eric Clapton, Lynrd Skynrd, and The Allman Brothers) all met with tragedy, death and loss of loved one.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...very interesting (clink on links....great music attached along with websites, photos, history....)

Live Aid

BBC NEWS Entertainment Music Live Aid II 'set for Hyde Park'

Where were you for the historical rock and roll event of the century (not counting Woodstock) ???

You must click this link and re-live the wonder of that day!

I will never forgot that day. It was a hot afternoon and my sister and had to watch the entire thing broadcast live but we didn't want to sit in the house all day. So we had a brilliant plan. We got an extension cord and pulled the TV set out to the edge of the sliding glass doors and then plugged in fans and sat in lounge chairs, sunning, drinking beer and watching the show. My highlights were Robert, Jimmy and John Paul re-uniting with Jason Bonham on drums, David Bowie and Mick Jagger via video, Power Station and .... well every moment was outstanding. It gives me chills. That's it, I'm headed for the store to buy my copy!

PLEASE TELL ME YOUR MEMORIES OF LIVE AID!

Unused Zep Tix

NEVER GOT TO USE THESE TiCKETS! Posted by Hello

I'm depressed today so what better thing to post than my un-used tickets from the only chance I ever had to see Led Zeppelin. Notice the price - $8.75! Can you believe that!

If you want to hear the whole sad story as to why we showed up for this concert but weren't allowed in, give me a post and I will share on here. Long story short: my boyfriend messed up on the dates and we were a day late for this concert.

I am going to go put on Kashmir and try to feel better.

Emerson, Lake and Palmer

three amazing musicians! Posted by Hello

Keith, Carl and Greg...

ELP was one of the very first PROGRESSIVE ROCK BANDS.

My memories of them include one of the most incredible concerts I have ever witnessed. It was as if a whole symphony had combined with a rock band to produce this incredible sound...

BUT, it was only THREE GUYS!

Keith Emerson is one of the most innovative and talented keyboardists ever. He was one of the first players to make the Moog synthesizer well-known.

Carl Palmer was a "drum wizards" His drum kit cost $25,000 to put together and that was back in 1970! It had every percussion instrument you can think of.

Greg Lake not only played bass and guitar, but his voice was one of the sexiest, most mellow voices in rock...some people called it "angelic".

Layla's Recipe for listening to ELP:

1. Get comfortable and put your feet up

2. Put on a high-quality head set

3. Listen to the following three songs four times each:

From the Beginning

Lucky Man

Still- You Turn Me On

4. The first time through listen to the guitar/bass, the second time listen to the drums/percussion, the third time listen to the keyboards/synthesizer and finally on the fourth time: put it all together and let Greg's vocals and their lyrics carry you away....

This is a guarantee. If it doesn't happen for you, let me know, we'll figure out if those three songs need to be replaced by one of their others for your personal and complete musical satisfaction.

Pink Floyd

dark side of the moon Posted by Hello

Drugs.
That's that I think off when I think of Pink Floyd. I love David Gilmore, I loved their music (don't listen much anymore). Pink Floyd took me to another dimension, literally. May 1977, Anaheim Stadium, The Animals Tour, red wine, LSD, lying on the grass, watching the huge inflated animals floating overhead, listening to Comfortably Numb and Wish you Were Here, Jon, Kathy, Scott, Frans. I never wanted that concert to end.
Note to the person who posted here earlier: Pink Floyd is still a great band, but drugs are NOT. I hope that this post did seem that I am condoning the use of them, because I pray every day that my son will never do drugs. I am just relating a story of a night I will never forget.

STYX

The Big Bang Theory

I have to admit I am not a huge STYX fan, but this is one helluva good recording of some great rock songs! I give it a thumbs up for sure. Let me know what you think. My fave song on this CD: so far "I can't find my way home" but I still have 6 others to listen to. Makes we want to party!!! :)

$400 a ticket for U2

u2 Posted by Hello

WOW. $400 is the most I have ever paid for tickets. But out of the hundreds of concerts I have been too - never once have I seen one of my favorites, U2. It's about time! And I am sure it will be worth every penny.
The site above is all you need if you are a U2 fan.

Robert then

Robert Plant Posted by Hello

Does anyone NOT recognize this photo? If so, can I guess that you are very young and your parents probably had not yet met when this photo was taken (1973). Robert Plant was so different from anyone else of that era. This is a classic shot and I love it - not just because of how darn good looking and sensual Robert is, but because of the symbolism and the irony of the white dove, the balance of his masculinity and his softer side, the booze, the cig, the smile the belt buckle...it's all good.

Robert now

Robert Plant Posted by Hello

Time and partying has taken a bit of a toll on Robert. He's not the sexy long haired front man he once was, BUT, HIS TALENT HAS NOT diminished. He released his new CD Migthy Rearranger and it's great! Check out the review and be sure to take a listen.

Mighty Rearranger draws out the best qualities of his otherworldly voice, surrounding it with rich Middle Eastern textures, soft blues accents and gorgeous psychedelic swooshes. It's in keeping with the spirit of 2002's exotic and lush Dreamland, only it sounds more refined. The quiet bits are quieter and the loud bits are timely reminders that Plant was once a man possessed by a dozen dead wolverines. He's not kidding when on "Shine It All Around," he sings, "These are the days of my life/ Bright, strong and golden --Aidin Vaziri

Paul from Bad Co.

Bad Company was an instant hit worldwide. They were on the "Swan Song" label started by Led Zep. Their 1974 self-titled debut went platinum five times over! Every song on that record was great. Paul Rodgers was nicknamed "The Voice" for good reason. Does anyone know what they are up to today? I'll check it out soon and report back.

Personal note:
In 1975 I got was in an end-over end collision as the passenger of a "Grand Am". I was knocked unconscious and when I woke up the first thing I heard was Bad Co. singing "I feel like making love to you". Then I noticed I was in the back seat staring up at the steering wheel. So every time I hear that song, I don't think of making love, but I do thank God I am still around to enjoy good music :)

The Pretenders

Pretenders Archives Main Menu

Crissie Hynde still has it.
I saw her recently when The Pretenders were inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, she was incredible as usual. She has a reputation for being "harsh and hard" but even if that's true, who can blame her? Tragedy struck The Pretenders not once - but twice - losing two vital members to drug overdose. They continue to be a great classic rock band that has a "new wave vibe".

Prince

Prince Posted by Hello

Is Prince Classic Rock and Roll? No...but he's in a class all his own and is a musical genius. Not everyone has that opinion and it took quite a while for him to gain recognition and be taken seriously. Here's a story from "back in my day" when he was booed off the stage...

It was '82 (acutally I am fuzzy on the exact year) and the Stones were doing an all day outdoor gig with other bands such as George Thourogood, and J Geils, etc.

But the first act to come on was a total UNKNOWN. Here comes this skinny black dude in a really funky outfit and people started throwing trash at him:

During this period, Prince began to attract attention for the clothes he wore onstage. He wore high-heeled shoes and boots and tended to flaunt and express an intense sexuality onstage in addition to in his music, using symbols associated with transgenderism and as a result, people began questioning his sexual orientation. His stylistic choices brought him trouble as an opening act for The Rolling Stones' two Los Angeles Coliseum shows in 1981, where he was infamously pelted with garbage while wearing bikini briefs, leg warmers, high-heeled boots, and a trench coat, in addition to being booed off the stage for his wardrobe.

I felt sorry for him. The small amount of music he was able to play while he endured the critical masses sounded good. Little did we know he'd be the headlining band within a few years.

“Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are”
-Kurt Cobain

This quote is very meaningful to me.

Come as you are, as you were,As I want you to beAs a friend, as a friend, as an old enemyTake your time, hurry upThe choice is yours, don't be lateTake a rest as a friend as an old memoriaCome dowsed in mud, soaked in bleachAs I want you to beAs a trend, as a friend, as an old memoriaAnd I swear that I don't have a gunNo I don't have a gun

Tom Petty

TP Posted by Hello

When Tom and The Heartbreakers first LP came out in 1976, they were "fresh enough to almost be considered punk. They weren't as reckless or visionary as the Ramones, but they shared a similar love for pure '60s rock and, for the Heartbreakers, that meant embracing the Byrds as much as the Stones..." Read More

Van Halen Posted by Hello

The Atomic Punks

Next best thing to the "old" Van Halen!

I was thinking it was long overdue that I put Van Halen on my site. To me, no offense to Sammy, VH ended the day David Lee Roth was out. I can't find a good photo of him with the band on-line. That's crazy.

In the meantime while I search, check out The Atomic Punks! I ran across their site and realized I know the lead singer, Ralph Saenz, from back in the day! He's talented and still quite the hottie. All the girls went nuts for him in high school. I can't wait to hear them live.
