Freddie, You Are Missed

20 years ago today, we lost him. There will never be another Freddie Mercury.

  1. I have the Live Aid 4 disc DVD package. They put on one of the (I think) greatest preformances that whole day, and yes he is still missed along with the late great Eric Carr, drummer for Kiss who died the same day ironicly enough.

One to AIDS and one to THE BIG C in one day...... very sad. Two great losses in the rock world.

  3. He was one of the greats, Barb. The local rock station had a tribute page set up for the 20th anniversary and aired a fantastic BBC special. It was really troubling to see that a few people saw fit to put their ignorance on display and make homophobic comments. All you can do is feel great embarrassment for the terminally narrow minded...

  4. I grew up in the Midwest, and graduated from High School in 1978. Every 8 track in town was worn out from "A Night at the Opera". I have to admit that we weren't aware of Freddie's predilections at the time, and it might have made a difference to us then. Seeing this clip now, however, makes it clear that he was an underrated genius. I'm glad that we've progressed towards allowing people to be who they are. Thanks for the post!

  5. 5150, Eric's death was overshadowed by Freddie's, which is very unfortunate. I agree - two great losses.

    Sean, Amen to this:

HS, We're about the same age, I graduated in '77. 8 tracks - what a blast from the past! I appreciate you stopping by to comment. Things have progressed a lot since then, but still not enough, imo.
