Derek & The Dominos 40th Anniversary Release Planned

Layla re-released?

Its interesting to me that so many older bands re-release their music these days. What do you think of that?

  1. If the re-release does something to make it's existence worthwhile, I'm all for it. There needs to be something there. I'm against re-releasing for the sake of re-releasing. There's one album I've had on casette, and 2 different CDs that I don't feel has been done right since its original vinyl release. The Columbia, Chicago Records, and Rhino Records releases all sound "muddy." The quality of the material is exceptional, but the quality of the mix is atrocious. The only good mix I've ever heard of the album is a rip to mp3 from the Quadrophonic vinyl version of the album. Maybe if they were to go back to the Quad masters for the re-release they'd finally get it right.

Is there anything on the Derek & the Dominoes re-release that sets it apart and makes it worth getting (as opposed to continuing to listen to an older release)?

  2. Actually I am all for it. If it can enlighten more youngsters in their appreciation for good old classic rock then more power to them. They will I am sure improve on the sound of the original master recordings with our modern day equipment. Just so you know this is the forth time for the re release of the song Layla. First on the album in 1970, then again as a single in 1972 (where it finally got onto the charts) and then again as an acoustic (unplugged) version in 1980.

  5. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is one of my all time favourites. Best track is Have You Ever Loved a Woman.
