Songs About Transvestites

Just heard "Lola" as I was driving in my car.  What a fun song to sing along to.  It got me thinking about other songs about men who dress up as women...I can think of a few and there ares some that are rumored to on that topic - but who knows for sure.

Can you think of some others?

1.  Lola, The Kinks
2.  Take a Walk on the Wild Side, Lou Reed
3.  Dude Looks Like a Lady, Aerosmith
4.  Obla di Obla da, The Beatles
5.  I Want to Break Free, Queen
6.  Sweet Transvestite (not sure who it's by)

  1. There's always music by transvestites (or at least close to it), i.e. anything by Twisted Sister.

  2. Dr. J, good one! hehe

  3. I think "Get Back" by The Beatles would fit this theme.

  4. Hmmm ... songs about men who dress like women? I can't think of any that you haven't already listed.

As for Twisted Sister? I remember seeing Dee Snider on TV when he was appearing before the Congressional hearings as a result of Tipper Gore and her music CENSORING campaign. I almost didn't recognize him.

  6. Aerosmith Dude Looks like a Lady?

  7. "Mr. Lady" by NYC Grrrl Punk band, Lunachicks, off their 1997 release, "Pretty Ugly".

  8. Kings of Leon joke about how many songs they've sung about transvestites. "Trani" is one of their best songs live, Caleb going nuts at the end.

  9. For the record, Sweet Transvestite was written by Richard O'Brien and sung ever so memorably by Tim Curry =)

  13. Honky Tonk woman is not about a transvestite. It is about a hooker.

There's the famous Pink Floyd song "Arnold Layne" from the Barrett era.

  14. Rebel Rebel....... huh? this should be the top of this tranny list. Im an avid Ukulele player that is thinking about putting together a tranny set. Im strait, but my humor is rather crooked. Crackerman by STP too, and I think Old Man by Neil Young works for a tranny/uke set.

    Placebo - Nancy Boy

  17. Neither "Ob La Di Ob La Da" nor "Old Man" are about trannies. "Rebel Rebel" by David Bowie, "Walk on the Wild Side" by Lou Reed, "All the Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople, "Polythene Pam" by the Beatles, "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc, "5:15" by the Who, and finally, while not about a transvestite per se, "Jack-A-Roe" (traditional/Grateful Dead) IS about a woman who dresses as a man. :)
