  1. On my first week of college. My new roommate told me about a new "tv station" that aired rock videos. I thought it was not "tradtional" and not a good idea. Madoon adn the Fixx are glad I was wrong.

  2. I was in diapers in 1981! Yeah, that's right, I've never lived during a time without MTV . . .

Although, you could argue that we're now living in a time without true MTV. They've certainly left the M out of the TV in the past ten years.

  3. None of the above. I was a working adult with no cable.

  4. My friends and I had been waiting weeks for it to come on the air. We were sitting there passing a joing when it finally came on. We were glued to it for months...maybe years????

  5. I was under age 11 and my local cable didn't pick up MTV until the late 80s. Although, oddly enough, they picked up VH1 in 1985 or 1986.

I was 8. But I was watching. I remember that in the beginning, my Aunt had MTV and we didn't. We would go out there a lot in the summer because she had a pool and a kick ass basement with a pool table, etc. But after I was done swimming, all I wanted to do was watch MTV. And I had a mad crush on Alan Hunter. No idea why now! He's not at all my adult type.

  8. Funny--for the huge cultural phenomenon it was, and all the attention to the first video on there by the Buggles being a watershed, I don't remember anything about the first year or two of MTV.

It seems to be one of those things that seems more dramtic in retrospect.
